AB Tech is offering a Machining Fundamentals course that is starting on August 28 (new start date) and is taught at the Enka location from 8:00 am thru 2:00 pm for 15 weeks, for a total of 330 hours.   The manual operation of vertical mills, metal lathes, and surface grinders is taught as well as an introduction to CNC machining.  I have taken this course and hope to take it again-- it is incredible.  They also offer an evening course from 3:00 pm thru 9:00 pm, but not this fall semester-- it is dependent on having a minimum of 6 students.  See page 23 of the current Fall 2017 Continuing Education Catalog.

Another course that may be of interest is Advanced Composites dealing with carbon fiber composite materials and processes.  There are a few variations of the course and instruction may be arranged pending number of people interested.  The current class being offered is Aerospace and Structural Composites, but anyone interested in the topic should give a call and discuss class possibilities and arrange a tour of the lab.  (There is usually a list of people interested in the class and waiting to hit the magic 6 participant number)  Classes usually are Friday evening and all day Saturday at the main Asheville campus.  See page 22 of the current Fall 2017 Continuing Education Catalog for the current offering.  A rare opportunity to work with this incredible material.
