Campus Director: Second Campus

JBFC is seeking a dynamic, fun-loving, experienced leader, who is passionate about children, international development, and is eager to help change lives in Tanzania, East Africa. JBFC believes no child should have to grow up in extreme poverty. That’s why we take a holistic approach to change in East Africa by providing refuge for abused and abandoned girls, quality primary and secondary education, access to rural healthcare, and economic opportunity through agriculture. Since 2006, JBFC has been working on a campus model in the rural village of Kitongo in northern Tanzania. At its flagship campus, JBFC operates a primary and secondary school for 350 boys and girls, a home for 48 abused or abandoned girls, a permaculture farm, and a small medical clinic. JBFC aims to replicate this holistic campus model that it has created in Kitongo in other communities in Tanzania. JBFC is seeking an individual who can help lead the development of JBFC’s second campus in stages over the next several years.

The Campus Director is primarily responsible for all operations, happenings, and programmatic development on JBFC’s second campus. This position will lead and manage a growing staff (eventually consisting of more than 60 people) and a growing campus. We are looking for someone who is very organized, highly motivated, and has experience creating a budget and managing people. Because this campus will have a phased approach to development, initially the Campus Director will have to wear many different hats. We envision the position growing over time as the campus grows. This position will report directly to the Tanzanian Chief Operating Officer (COO: TZ).

This is a challenging environment, set in an isolated, rural setting that requires someone who can think on their feet, act quickly, and juggle a number of projects at once. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of leadership experience in East Africa, be familiar with the Tanzanian culture and be proficient in Kiswahili. We are looking for someone with strong problem-solving skills, and can simultaneously work autonomously and in a team. This person must also be a self-starter and highly motivated to create change. It is a challenging job in a fast-paced environment, with no day looking the same, but can be extremely fulfilling and rewarding. The Campus Director must be a flexible and patient person, frequently willing to put in overtime to ensure the campus is running to standards.
