JBFC is seeking a dynamic, fun-loving individual who is passionate about children, social change, and is eager to help change lives in Tanzania, East Africa. We operate a girls' home, school, healthcare clinic, and a permaculture farm in a rural village in Tanzania. JBFC's Kitongo, Tanzania campus hosts more than 120 international students, volunteers, and supporters, throughout the year.

The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania (VC) is a Kitongo-based position, where you are on the front lines of helping JBFC alleviate extreme poverty in rural Tanzania. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic about service, have international travel experience, be a people-person and be very detail-oriented. The applicant should also be proficient in computer programs, photography, and social media. This job will require you to juggle coordinating travel schedules, planning and executing volunteer schedules and programs that range from a few days to months on campus, and attending to both individual's and groups' needs in Tanzania. The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania will also work with the U.S. office to share the volunteer experience with the broader JBFC community around the world. The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania will also be responsible for providing basic administrative support in the Kitongo office.

The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania position is a full-time position in Tanzania that will require flexible hours in a fast-paced environment. The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania will be living and working with JBFC's many different volunteers throughout the year and therefor must be prepared to be "on" throughout much of each day. The Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania must be ready to work with children and people from many different backgrounds from around the world. As a JBFC employee, the Volunteer Coordinator in Tanzania must be willing to uphold JBFC's mission and values at all times and assist with the promotion of JBFC's work to all volunteers and supporters, and surrounding community.

Primary tasks include, but are not limited to:

- Oversight of Tanzanian Volunteers

  • First responder to all volunteer related activities and issues on JBFC's Kitongo campus
  • Conduct orientations for individuals and groups visiting Tanzania
  • Communicate with the Tulsa Volunteer Coordinator during trip planning, in-trip updates, and post trip follow up
  • Take pictures of volunteers on-campus and send them to the U.S. office. Provide updates for the U.S. volunteer coordinator about trip activities.
  • Make sure that guests and volunteers are following schedules and rules at all times and that any issues are being communicated to the LC, Administrative Director, and COO
  • Work to improve the program based on volunteer input
  • Work with volunteers, JBFC staff in Tanzania, and JBFC girls and students to make sure all parties are prepared for the various activities and projects on campus

- Administrative Support

  • Work with the LC, Administrative Director, and COO in Kitongo to assist with various administrative tasks including inventorying supplies and donations, printing, filing, and other office related tasks
  • Assist the Logistic Coordinator, Administrative Director, and COO to make sure that all pre-trip preparations and post-trip follow up are completed for individuals and groups visiting Tanzania. This includes preparing schedules, making campus arrangements around events and activities, and collecting debriefs
  • Responsible for collecting all pictures and videos from JBFC's various departments and programs as needed
  • Assist JBFC volunteers and interns in writing blogs for JBFC social media
  • Provide content for JBFC social media, website, and blog
  • Support the Administrative Director and LC with managing and executing activities related to JBFC's ongoing pen-pal, Sponsor-a-Child, and classroom partnerships

Requirements:

- Bachelor's Degree

- Minimum of 1 year of international service-related work

- Extensive travel experience is preferred

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Excellent MS Office skills

- Strong photography skills

- Strong attention to detail and ability to proactively anticipate needs

- Able to handle pressure effectively and manage multiple tasks

- Able to work well with and adapt to diverse personalities and communication styles

- Strong administrative and organizational skills

- Experience working with children of all ages

- Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision; solution-oriented

- Valid drivers license

- Candidates with basic Swahili skills will be given preference
