Biography of Odette Lanthier



Odette Lanthier was born in Montreal, Quebec in December 1951, and
quickly developed a passion for drawing and visual art as a child. Her
mother and father, who owned a commercial decorating business, greatly
influenced her creative spirit and imagination.

In 1976, she settles in St-Bruno de Montardville and begins to take
painting and drawing classes in order to master and evolve in her own
techniqe. Odette founds the Association des Artistes Peintres de la
Rive-Sud (South Shore Painters Association) in 1980 and through this
organization, participates in numerous exhibitions throughout Quebec
and has the opportunity to meet many influential artists.

Always fascinated by the effects of light and shadow, she explores
color contrasts in order to emphasize the luminosity within her
paintings. Of her creative endeavers, she says, "Everyone can express
themselves in their own way; what really matters is believing in what
one does and finding pleasure in it.

Odette Lanthier has participated in many solo and group exhibitions
throughout Quebec and Ontario, and is held in a number of private and
corporate collections.

Née à Montréal, en décembre 1951 dans le quartier Rosemont, elle
développe dès son jeune âge un engouement pour le dessin et les arts
visuels.

Son esprit de créativité et son imagination est grandement sollicité
puisqu'elle est sous l'influence directe d'un père et d'une mère
exploitant un commerce en décoration commerciale.

Cette période aura sûrement contribué à développer son sens artistique
et surtout sa passion; la peinture.

C'est en 1976, lorsqu'elle s'intalle à St-Bruno de Montardville;
qu'elle suit des cours de peinture et de dessin afin de maîtriser et
d'évoluer dans sa propre technique.

En 1980, elle participe activement à la vie communautaire, en y
fondant l'Association des Artistes Peintres de la Rive-Sud. Par cet
organisme, des vernissages sont organisés dans les Galerie d'Art de
différentes localités. De plus, elle invite des peintres reconnus tel
que Jean-Marc Blier, Viateur Lapierre, André Bertounesque, Jean-Paul
Ladouceur et plusieurs autres afin d'y présenter des exposés
techniques.

Ces rencontres ne font que stimuler son grand désir d'aller au bout de
son rêve.
