Hey ARIS games,

We made a few small changes yesterday:

- Hide the unnamed events that are created by plaques, conversations
- Fixed the import/export on the beta editor
- Fixed the locks for tabs showing the wrong content for completed quest

Outside of the intermittent issue where the screen isn’t refreshing after you make a change, a bug that plaques bother the main and beta editor, I think the beta editor is ready to replace the current version.

Are there any concerns with us making the update this week? Are there any reasons you still use the main editor?

Thanks!

David

I had read a while back that if you're editing a game in beta, you shouldn't switch back to production...but I did just that very thing when I found beta wasn't saving my changes and I was dealing with all of the unnamed events....and I seem to have been cruising along in the current editor just fine with my converted legacy game.  Can you make the current editor the new "legacy editor"? Just in case...

Possible bug?

Trying to get to the conversation script from the scenes sidebar and after clicking the "scripts editor", nothing happens. It says "loading" but then doesn't load.  The script is available in the conversation tab but it's nice to be able to jump to the script right from the scenes sidebar.

Clarification - this is in the beta editor.  This bug does not exist in the production editor.

Again in beta...

Getting some weird lines when making changes to conversations (see screen shot)...there is also a lag in seeing modifications to conversations...sometimes they don't show up unless I refresh the page manually. Then, if I've pressed the "add something arrow" several times trying to get it to work, I see all of my new boxes representing all of the clicks I didn't think worked...but apparently did upon refresh.

I post this simply because it might confuse/frustrate those not familiar with beta.  :-)

Nice digging Julie.

The information in the earlier thread about switching back and forth is now out of date. For a brief time, a game opened in beta was un-openable in vanilla. No longer.

Editing a conversation from the sidebar in "Scenes": this has long had problems associated with it. Clicking on "edit script" should be titled "edit script" and should automatically save info entered into the panel (name and media).

This is generally related to another bug. If you start a plaque, conversation, etc., enter info, and then go on to add media before saving, the info you enter is not saved when you return from the media picker. These buttons should also do autosave.

Stray lines and not auto refreshing screen: Others have seen these too and the devs know. For now, they are not so bad as long as you know they might happen.

As long as we're pushing a new editor version out, any chance there is time to consider a couple UI things that really get in the way for beginners and regulars alike:
  • A few words to the locks UI so that combining locks is possible to understand without external reference.
  • More space in scenes: room for more text, re-orderable scenes, and re-orderable triggers within scenes. I know there are seriously pretty things planned, but something basic would make scenes actually useful to help organize and see a game's content.

I have been using the beta editor exclusively for some time now and have no issues that drive me to use the old editor at this time.  If you could give a window of time in which you might make the switch-over, you know, like the cable guy appointment, I would probably arrange to not be programming at that time,... and put the dog in the kennel.

Thanks for all the great thoughts on this thread. I’ll be in touch about an ETA to publish the new version of the editor. We really need to do some additional fundraising here as most of this work is happening on the fringes of other projects and I’d love to see the editor have it’s own team so we could really nail it.

Thanks, Chris!

I totally agree with your UI recommendations. We want this platform to feel "solid" to new and regular users alike. It's pretty close, but your suggestions would help a lot. 😃
