The archive, as the name suggests, is primarily a repository of North Indian classical music but, with time, it has grown to include many other genres as well. Here, for instance, you will find a vast collection of folk songs, including the legendary Hemanga Biswas's music collection; a large number of folk songs donated by Kali Dasgupta, the noted singer and collector of folk music; and even the record collection of noted journalist Gour Kishore Ghosh. And it will be a researcher's delight to find rare Bengali theatre songs (Bangla hashir gaan, or Bengali satire songs) of a bygone era.
