DOWNTOWN AKRON — Summit County Executive Russ Pry announced a $2,000
grant has been awarded by the Ohio Historical Records Advisory Board
(OHRAB) for the Edwin Shaw Hospital Scrapbook Project. The grant will be
used to preserve, catalog and digitize records for improved public
access, according to Pry’s office.
In 2010, the county’s Records Center and archives became the guardian
of records for the closed Edwin Shaw Tuberculosis Sanitarium in
Lakemore. Among the collection of historical documents are admittance
cards, burial permit books, board minutes, intake and discharge records,
annual reports, financial records, films, newsletters, photographs and
several scrapbooks, according to Pry’s office. The scrapbooks include
correspondence, pamphlets, brochures, posters, photographs and glass
plates.
