Just over two decades ago, volunteers looking to start a new archives department at the Jefferson County Courthouse found themselves confronted with a daunting task.
Inside the vaults, dusty stacks of boxes that once contained bananas and tomatoes now served as repositories for more than two hundred years of Jefferson County history.
“Some of it literally had not been touched in over two centuries,” recalled Archives Director Lu Hinchey.
