Cool.

but, can you put that in layman's terms? Does this change our rankings in google when someone searches for "maker space" or "hacker space" or does it allow us to add additional words to our description so we show up under more searches or something else?

Thanks,

Amberly the not tech savy

I'm not sure what your guy's grant is, but Area515 got a similar grant.  I'm not in charge of it so I can only talk about what I have heard in conversation.  I believe that we get $X per month in AdWords money.  The grant also limits your bit so that you don't compete on really popular terms.  The way that adwords works is that you bid on certain key words for a target area and for each visitor when ads are calculated they figure out an "expected value" for each ad based on the bid * probability of click.  We have found that in our area RadioShack is a rather cheap keyword.  Again, since I am not in charge of this I don't have any metric to know if we are actually getting value here.  What this does provide is a good opportunity for someone that is interested in SEO and internet advertising to get their feet wet without spending actual money.

It means we are going to essentially free advertising from Google. There are some restrictions, but those can be taken care of behind the scenes and are not too hard. I do not know what exactly that advertising will be, but we could use it.
