Not sure who left the lathe and surrounding area completely packed with wood chips/dust...

Tools and surrounding areas must be cleaned after use.

Seems we have a bit of work to do on the concepts comprising "shop culture". :/

Yep.  I used the table saw last weekend and when I was done and cleaning up I found the cabinet below the saw was about half full of sawdust and wood chips.  I know I didn't generate all that!  Not a huge deal since I was cleaning it up anyway but still...

How hard would it be to mention a mess to someone you see leaving it as well?  I suspect these are not lone gremlins.  Also, there are a lot of hand tools lying around all the time.  Yes, walls are going up but tools can be put away between work days.  Don't look inviting to new members... Just my $0.02.

And yes, feel free to say something to me if you see me overlook a mess I make.

Sometimes that isn't as easy as it sounds.  How do you know when someone is done or isn't just running out to their vehicle for some other stuff.  Or maybe just taking a break?  Are people really paying that much attention?  I think not.  Last time I cut a few things on the table saw I was the only one in the back when I finished up.  I suggested some signs when some issues came up about the sander and was told it wasn't high on the priority list (or something like that).  I think it needs to be attacked from several angles.  Some signs saying please clean up after you are done or something like that might help at least a little.  People may look around, see other stuff laying around, and think a bit more isn't a big deal.

I'm quite sure this is exactly it.  last mess i made I'm sure I didn't get completely cleaned because i couldn't tell what was my mess and what was already there.  I didn't have time to clean the whole shop, so i just swept up what I thought was a reasonable radius around where I worked and a little more.  the piles people keep leaving on tables aren't helping either, I only found half a table to work on, so now there's sawdust in someone else's unlabeled project.

Internal video would resolve questions such as this, as well as by its very presence, encourage better behavior.

heh Yesterday I ran a Bunch of two inch "squares" on the table saw as a last minutes thing for the Stage at Fire and Ice.  As i was on a fast timeline i just ran them and left the mess to clean up when we got back from the Event that night.

I got back in, we got things packed in, and i set up the shop vac to just clean up the little mess... :)  I noticed there seemed to be a decent Buildup inside the the Table-saw itself... 20+ minutes later i had Vacuumed up 6+ inches of saw dust that Inside the machine (2 different levels of 3+ inches each) that had accumulated inside the ting.     There was basically nowhere else that sawdust could have sat it was so thick.

anyway it wasn't a big deal other than i was exhausted to start with...  but i have to imagine that had the sawdust build up much farther it would have started inter fearing with the chain drive of the blade.  Just please when you clean up, it's not just the Floor and the Top of  the machine that needs to be cleaned out sometimes.

Yes, basically every time I use the table saw then vacuum, I find a pile of sawdust in there as well. I'm just glad someone empties the shop  vac, as I must half fill it each time I touch it. :/ Not highest priority, but it surely would be nice to get a central system in.
