In the wrong business.  Also, why I don't like kickstarter.

Especially now that they no longer do any kind of review.

Did they change their approval process?  I was helping with a kickstarter project a while back and they were pretty picky about who they accepted or didn't accept.

If you allow everything then you can take a cut from everything. Like banks giving mortgages, but less economically devastating.

One of the backings is to choose an ingredient. If I payed $5 and don't get to choose a unique ingredient different than the other 300+ blokes, I'm gonna be pissed.

I am rather vividly recalling the $5k WasabiNet barcode keychain fob payment scheme that was turned down for involving "activities not considered a good fit for Kickstarter."  I would wish more power to the potato salad guy, if it weren't for the fact Kickstarter and Amazon are taking a 14% cut of this windfall.

Maybe WasabiNet could try again?

Definitely worth revisiting.  I'll dig up the content of that barcode project (was sent to several potential grantors) and share it on the Wasabi listserv.

Wow... it's at over 69k now.  This guy is going to have a lot of work on his hands.. the rewards are not all that scalable.

What a way to become Internet famous.  I wonder if Grumpy Cat's agent will be contacting him soon.  (Yes, Grumpy Cat actually has an agent.)

I saw a honey nut cheerios commercial with grumpy cat, the bee was quite afraid.

I bet this guy would need to do multiple events to handle all that.
though most require being present, so I bet a lot will forfeit part of
their reward

I interpreted "hang out in the kitchen" as just join my google hangout on my new MacBook Pro that's in the kitchen.

Let's do Jello!  It's so much better than potato salad.

What could AR do with 30k

With 30k? Quite a bit, I'd suspect... 8)

I imagine he long ago crossed the threshold of simply cutting a check to a catering firm and pocketing the rest.

I imagine he'll spend 20grand on a lavish party and pocket the rest. Kickstarter doesn't really have any legal protections for donations.

It's important to mention that he will likely finish with maybe a couple hundred. Most of the dollars are joke s and will be retracted.

Kickstarter only rule on canceling a bid is that it can't take it below the"funded" threshold in the last 48 hours.

I would even suspect that the majority of the 1$ supporters will go away as well as they only tagged it to make it easier to find / watch

Interesting... hopefully this guy doesn't go put deposits on venues and overextend himself only to find 90% of his funding has vanished.

Good to know you can retract your pledge, but that makes the system even more flawed :). Oh boy.

Even Afterwards.. Nothing Really holds you to a Pledge.. I mean Amazon just tries to Charge you for 7 days.  f you don't have it after 7 days it cancels the Charge process.

Example
I have a Kickstarter Ending today.  I had to drop 400$ on a Fix on my van this week unexpectedly, which ate my slush fund for this Kickstarter payment.  It will try to charge me, and fail.  I'll get an email.  Nothing is disabled on Kickstarter, I could continue to to Pledge on other projects, or change Pledges on existing Kickstarter.   Over the next several days it'll try and charge it off an on.

So money is back in that account on Friday, and Amazon will be happy to take then :)  the world is all good again.. :)

Hmmm... well it has dropped significantly over the last 24 hours.  It was at 69k yesterday and is now at 44k.
