'Esc' + 'X' then  '('   # start a macro
'Esc' + 'X'   then type "search-forward-regex" below
-> search "z[ab]" and add a "i" inline           # so "za" or "zb" becomes "zia" or "zib" respectively
'Esc' + 'X' then  ')'  # save the macro

Launch the macro with 'Esc' + 'X' then 'E'
->  surprise :  "z[ab]" has been replaced by  "z\[ab\]" that does not work for the search ...

Hi Laurent,

Consider taking this to the gnu-emacs-help mailing list, or actually, submit a bug report to bug-gn...@gnu.org (but use the Help -> Diagnose -> Bug Report function). I agree with you that this shouldn’t be.

Best,
David
