Background coloring of SSIDs on map

Trivial question, but what is the significance of the shading of SSIDs on the map? I see red, yellow, gray, etc; are these the symbol Attribute Types of APRS, expressed as background colors?

Yes, they mostly match the "APRS symbol attribute" colours.
