It appears all the AIS data is now missing. And theses links on the page http://aprs.fi/page/ais_sites

only point at unrelated advertisements.

I don't see a single vessel in the Pacific Ocean reporting via AIS. There are AIS reports in the Baltic, but practically nowhere else.

The reports in the Pacific seem to have all stopped on December 4th at about 18:00 UTC.

And the links in the page http://aprs.fi/page/ais_sites are misdirected/broken/hijacked.

It appears that nearly all the volunteer reporting stations for AIS data (including mine) have been dropped. Those looking for AIS can go to www.marinetraffic.com. But it was nice to see all that data in one place on aprs.fi. Oh well, those were the times...

This is rather odd. I didn't do anything about those.

Patrick, are you uploading directly to aprs.fi?

I wasn't submitting directly to aprs.fi. My AIS data was being relayed to aprs.fi, at my request, by marinetraffic.com. Perhaps they stopped the relay?

You can see my station stats here: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/details/stations/595. The station is co-located with N8QH-9.

If you can provide me with an IP address and TCP port, I will be happy to send you my AIS data. Please reply by private email to wdf...@gmail.com.

I looked around Patrick and it looks like only the stations submitted to APRS.FI are now displayed.

It looks like you need to install ShipPlotter or gnuais to upload data to APRS.FI.

I wish I lived closer to the coast. I’d like to set up an AIS receiver.

Best regards,

Right, it seems like I'm not getting anything back from Marinetraffic any
more. I'll have to investigate that a bit with them.

The AIS password is shown in the account view: https://aprs.fi/account/

Greeting Patrick,

On the page, http://aprs.fi/page/ais_feeding, in the Step-by-step instructions, instruction number 6, there is a link to “account page”. On that page you will find you ‘Callsign or nickname’, ‘Passward’, ‘AIS password’, ‘API Key’, and an option to ‘Delete account’.

Or you can just click on: http://aprs.fi/?c=account.

Any documentation on how to become a source of AIS information? I live
near the Tennessee River and we have lots of naval traffic.

Thanks Hessu,

If there's anything I can do to help. please let me know. I'm using AIS Dispatcher - not ShipPlotter, and with that utility, I have no means of including a password. I found that ShipPlotter would hang and crash after a few weeks of operation on my PC.

I have emailed the admin at marinetraffic and requested they re-establish my data feed to aprs.fi.

If there is any way aprs.fi can support data from AIS Dispatcher, then I can send AIS data directly to aprs.fi, rather than depending on marinetraffic to forward the data. I am using AIS Dispather to send data to marinetraffic and aishub. Adding aprs.fi as a third feed is very simple. ShipPlotter is not reliable (it crashes) - at least on my PC running Windows 7.

Hi Patrick and all,
I too enjoyed the AIS postings as I live at the coastal port of Otago New Zealand. Hopefully this feature can be reinstated Thanks.

Is the protocol further documented beyond what's on http://aprs.fi/page/ais_feeding? I've written my own software. I'm sending San Francisco AIS information to MarineTraffic and AISHub; I'd be glad to submit it here as well.

As an aside, I've written a number of Unix command-line tools and the beginnings of a library for handling AIS transmissions:

https://github.com/wpietri/simpleais/

It's not done yet, but it's at the point where I'm sure I'd benefit from feedback from others.

William,

I wrote a simple python script that takes a UDP stream and submits the data to aprs.fi.  It may be helpful: https://github.com/sycophantic/ais_json.
