I've noticed that APRS.FI is not working in Chrome on my Windows 7 64 bit system. It gets as far as displaying the car and 'loading...' then hangs. It works fine in Firefox, and Vivaldi, and Chrome if I switch on the IE extension.

Wonder if anyone has a fix for this, as Chrome is my preferred browser, and I don't like using the IE extension as it slows things down too much.

Thanks to Heikki OH7LZB for providing such a great service to the amateur community!

Richard, G3ZIY.

Version 43.0.2357.124m works as expected across all my systems, including Win7-64 and 8.1-64 without IE extensions. Also as-expected on Android and Ubuntu.

Its now stopped getting any further than the car symbol and 'loading...' even if I use the IE extension. Chrome is version 43.0.2357.130 m (64-bit). System is Windows home premium SP1 64 bit. Any ideas about how to fix this would br appreciated.

Still works fine in all my other browsers; just a hassle to switch browsers for this one site.

Richard, G3ZIY.

Hi,

Chrome is the most popular browser used to visit aprs.fi (35% of visitors
use it), it's generally working just fine, others are not complaining of
such a problem.

Please try:

(1) disabling all extensions (More tools -> Extensions, uncheck all)
(2) incognito mode

Does either of those help? If disabling extensions helps, try to figure
out which extension causes the problem by disabling them one by one.

Hi Heikki,

I tried unchecking all the extensions, and the developer mode checkbox - no change after Chrome re-start. Then I tried incognito mode and it worked fine. So I tried re-installing Chrome - no change. I wonder what the program does immediately after the word 'loading...' appears; this seems to be what is failing in my case.

Is there any sort of Chrome log file I can generate and send to you for analysis?

Meanwhile, I shall use incognito mode for now.

73, Richard.

Hi Richard  - I am assuming you also tried “clearing all history” ??

No, I hadn't Nagi - it didn't occur to me that that could be a problem, and I don't recall anyone suggesting it. But, at your suggestion, I cleared 'cached images and files' with immediate results - aprs.fi works fine now, and appears on the page much quicker than I ever remember it doing before.

So thank you very much!
