question about Google Groups

I am part of another Google Group, and I am unable to either post a new topic or reply to a poster who is not the person who started the group. The "new topic" button is grayed out. But, I can post in this group, so it's not a network setting. I've spoken to the creator of the other group, and she says she is not blocking me from posting or anything like that. I've also tried joining from my home gmail address, and I have the same problem. Any ideas?
