New user (and student pilot!) here and so far I love this app so much I drive with it on while commuting around Illinois and Indiana just to get used to reading sectionals! Problem is, I need the Chicago and St Louis sectionals because I live, travel and fly right around the border of these but I can't always see them together seamlessly. I got Chicago first and later StL. The St Louis sectional doesn't display unless I zoom out so far that it's useless. At enough zoom to read anything, the St L sectional disappears. If I zoom out it reappears. In fact, if I zoom out enough I can see everything all the way to the Gulf of Mexico, even though I only loaded the two maps. Pretty confused here.

Thanks for your question. This topic may help others who might
encounter chart problems. Thanks also for not just Downloading every
chart available, because it helps reduce our server load and keep Avare
free for everyone.

Note that the FAA chart maps (there are small versions of the map at the
bottom of the Avare Help screen) that shows coverage areas for the
various charts, doesn't completely match the Avare charts by those names
in some cases. Sometimes this is because some charts overlap a lot, as
you can see on both ends of the St. Louis chart on the FAA map, so such
overlapping charts are trimmed to meet at the edges in Avare. Secondly,
some other charts that overlap slightly are trimmed differently than the
lines show on the FAA maps.

The solution when the edge of a chart doesn't display, is to download
adjoining charts. So for example if you had the Sectional for St Louis
but that city or Cincinnati didn't show, you'd Download the Sectional
for Kansas City and/or Cincinnati as required.

> I got Chicago first and later StL.

It's possible that one or both of your charts aren't current, since
there's just been a chart update. The first thing to try would be to
Update in the Download menu. If that doesn't fix the problem, manually
delete the Database and then Get it again. Then if you Update the
charts they'll probably work, and if not you could Delete and Get them too.

> St Louis sectional doesn't display unless I zoom out so far

When you zoom out beyond a certain level, all charts default to a
low-resolution continent view regardless of whether the individual
charts are Downloaded. This continent view is for planning purposes and
can be handy when you zoom out to pan from charts installed for one
area, across an area without installed charts, and then zoom back in on
another area with charts. I do this sometimes going between my west
coast charts and a few selected east coast charts I've installed. I
don't install all the stuff in between because I don't need them and it
saves server time to help keep charts for Avare free.

Hope this helps.

Happy Flying!

Hi Tom and everyone.

I was able to duplicate, verify and confirm, your problem, using MSFSX, and found solutions for it.

If you want to use the Sectionals, John has already posted the solution, no need to delete and redownload the existing charts / databases, if you have 1404 version:

1-".. you'd Download the Sectional  for Kansas City and/or Cincinnati as required." Best

2-You can use the World, CG20 and CF18, 2nd best

3-Use the St Louis TAC for better resolution when close by, if the gap is a non issue. TV

Hi Tom. Please confirm if this worked for you. The last set of chart changes was big due to faa distribution changes. The distributed image densities changed and any mixing between cycles is likely to have caused problems.

If it is all one cycle then out is possible a few tiles are missing also due to changes required to process the new charts. We have very little time between faa release and old chart expiration. Thus every time they change their process (as they did this cycle) we have to push out charts in a rush.
