Hi Todd - thanks for your interest! I am thinking that if I really write this it will follow the math story. I probably won't include Turtle Old Man and the Flint People. I did not get to the Cocoon People story - basically I started with the beginning and then went on to describe the stone collecting and then later the animals and the times tables. But I think if we share bits and pieces with each other it could help with ideas.
Last year when Lisa and I worked on the Puck the Gnome play (she did the lion's share - excellent playwright!) we were also faced with how to put together a first grade-sized play with such a long and complicated story. We ended up leaving out a lot - but it worked well anyway.
What attracts me most to doing this (besides the enthusiasm of my class) is all the Native American songs we already know that could be woven into the play.
Here's what I've got so far - very little but maybe if I keep at it all week I'll have something....
