Import statement with assignment

Hi,
I just saw that ANTLR grammars can not only import other grammars with a simple "import" statement but it is possible to use an assignment (see https://github.com/antlr/grammars-v4/blob/master/antlr4/ANTLRv4Parser.g4#L89). However the ANTLR book doesn't mention this assignment form, nor could I find anything online about it. So, can someone please explain what this syntax is for? Is it supported at all (beyond the grammar level)?
