is this an angular 2 vs 4 error?

I am using Angular2 and I am using this 3rd party tree component and when I start using it, I get

If 'ng-template' is an Angular component, then verify that it is part of this module.

I read in some places that this is related to be running an angular4 component in an angular2 environment.

Is that the case? If so, what is the remedy?
