Dear Android-x86 Team,

Really great work on the Android-x86 port, it runs perfect in my
VirtualBox.

I have a quite important question for me concerning Multitouch on
Android-x86.

Your work plan states that this is an open issue. How much effort it
is to bring the Multitouch feature to your x86 port? Isnt the
Multitouch feature a native part of Android 2.0?
Or is it a touchpanel device driver issue that blocks the multitouch
feature?

Could anyone give some detailed information here?

Is it realistic that in the near future multitouch will also work for
the x86 port?

Thanks a lot for any information on this topic,
all the best
Wolfgang

Hey Wolfgang,
There is a Multi Touch Test APK uploaded to the project files:
http://code.google.com/p/android-x86/downloads/detail?name=MTTest.apk&can=2&q=
I am at work currently and cant test this on my device but I will see
if this works on my Viewpad 10 tonight(or tomorrow, my list of things
to check if they work on the viewpad is getting quite long :D) if you
would like.
The Viewpad has a 2 point multi touch screen I beleive.
The Viewpad however may be an exception to the others as the standard
Viewpad comes with a copy of android x86 on it with a working touch
screen driver, which, I am guessing, is a better start point than the
other devices this project is trying to support.

What device was it that you wanted to get the Multi touch feature
working on? and do you have any software that requires multi touch
atm?

All informations about multitouch on Android and Android-x86, I guess,
are there :

http://lii-enac.fr/en/architecture/linux-input/multitouch-android-howto.html

The drivers are functionnal with Ubuntu 10.10 with kernel 2.6.35x,
with Geis and Ginn.

I'm on it at the moment trying to understand how to implement them in
my Android-x86 build for Acer 1825PT(Z) and others such series...

Stephane Chatty, the author of most drivers for multitouch devices,
went on this forum on oct. 2010 to get some precisions about some
protocols A or B (I don't understand much about this ^^ ).

http://groups.google.com/group/android-platform/browse_thread/thread/fc717d35b784afb1

What I don't understand is that he was talking about the need of
kernel 2.6.36 or 2.6.37, while the drivers work fine with Ubuntu 10.10
which use 2.6.35 as default... ???

Dear Tobias,

Thanks for your answer. I have no integrated device such as the
Viewpad, but i would like to use an Android-x86 PC in combination with
a 3M 10 finger touchscreen, which is a quite new display device.
So my question is if i master to get the multitouch protocol out of
the 3M device is it possible to write a small Android driver
that fills this information into the Android system?

All the best
Wolfgang

3M touchscreen driver already exists in linux, but 10 fingers
touchscreen... woooww, you'd better ask Stephane Chatty to write the
drivers and a tuto on how to implement them... ^^

I don't know if Android is capable to handle this, but I guess Chih-
Wei is the sole person who can answer you... ;-)

I don't know if your 3M touchscreen is concerned, but I had just a new
look at the Enac site and it seems that they have a drivers that can
support up to 60 fingers, since kernel 2.6.34... ^^
