Android ICS-x86 for Lenovo S103T, build 14Jan12:
changes:
1. updates for kernel 3.0.8.
2. replace wl driver with brcmsmac.
3. added Android Terminal (doesn't work yet).
4. added File Manager (aka Open Manager).

working:
1. touch screen, keyboard, touchpad.
2. audio (playback ok, recording?)
3. ethernet
4. wifi (yay!), although currently tested only on WPA router, need feedback whether this works also for WPA2 routers.
5. bluetooth (yay!), tested streaming music with a2dp headphone.

not working:
1. camera.
2. rotation button. Btw, does somebody know how is it when we close the lcd lid, somehow the orientation will
change to portrait? Does s103t have accelerometer? I could not figured it out.
3. auto lcd dim (liblight)
4. ...

Robill

Robill,

Thanks for this build. I am testing the live Cd image now on an AAO
110 ZG5 with eGalax touchscreen mod. Han an Ath. wifi chip. Guess
what.

What works: keyboard, touchpad, wifi (connects in 1 sec with WPS2),
and best of all, the touchscreen is recognized by the GUI.

Touchscreen calibration is wrong though. With devtools/pointer
location, the touchpad button gives a nice two axis location. The
touchscreen gives lots of diagonal lines. Multitouch seems to work,
but gives many diagonal lines like a fractal.

Anyone knows how to calibrate?

Thanks mike

Hey Robill,

nice work - i am downloading and will test soon. The S10-3t has got an
accelerometer, that's for shure. in windows it is only enabled by the
lenovo-driver, so i have really don't know about the module or any
driver.

I will post my test-results soon.

Hi,

some hours later I discovered some minor issues:

- "white screen"-problem with most downloaded apps (application starts
but only shows white screen and bottom-menu-bar)
- wifi (wpa2) is only up to 56 Mbps maximum
- mounting usb-stick impossible (i have an sd-card installation with
fake sd-card)

hi, why there is no way to connect Google Account? I just did not
manage to connect my flash card - the system believes that the flash

usb flash/stick drive issue:
1. make sure you do not use fake sdcard option
2. make sure SDCARD variable is NOT set (press tab at grub menu to edit and look for SDCARD=... option)

for details refer to:

I can use usb drives just fine.

android marketplace:
- need google bundle apps to work. No idea yet to enable.

OK, i just need the sd-card-fake because i want to browse and be able
to download something without my usb-drive plugged in. The idea is to
sit on my couch and browse the web with my tablet. Thx anyway for the
hint, now i have an option how to use usb.

Refering to the "white screen"-issue maybe this post gives the
direction?

hi.

The problem with the sd card remains. I can not decide. Tell me how to
save changes to the editor grub? The problem of "white screen" is also
present in the Music application, russian keyboard, QIP.
Because of this "white screen" does not like to use the assembly.
just as bad, it's not possible to use the Market.

in the whole image:
everything that was said is working. The rate of higher than that of
the assembly based on the honeycomb

I found the Terminal working by doing the following:

settings->developeroptions->force GPU-Rendering (enable)

open temrinal-app, wait 1-2 sec then it should be as usual.

however i still got those enerving browser lags and an incredible slow
download-rate. Speedmeasurement of wifi-connection via Xtremelabs-App
says i got 8982,1 kbit/s, a normal 2 MB download needs up to 4
minutes....

Yes, the image has an broadcom-driver in it.

btw, it seems the longer i use the OS the faster it gets.... ??

Is it correct to say there no possibilities to update the system (like
"su repo sync" in terminal or something), and we have to rebuild (or
wait for a new built :D) evry time a new patch is released?... As i
continue thinking about it this might be the biggest disadvantage of
the OS.

Hey evrybody,

while we are waiting for the next release, i have some great news:

I found out how to get market, frameworks, maps, books etc. (the whole
googleapps stuff) working with the lenovo s10-3t:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349902

Following the instructions above did it.

Things you need to do before:

get Dropbox (makes it a lot easier to get files to the netbook than
usb stick)

get root manager (as you have to change permission of several .apk's)

I did exactly what the xda-developers-post said and ended up with a
working market-login (i still got no access because it says "no
dataconnection available", perhaps i will find out later), working
google streets, working google books.

The Instructions might work for other targets as well.

However i still cannot play videos with youtube-app. Its an graphic
issue i think. The app crashes while loading a video file (feels like
it comes just to the moment where it should play the video and...
crashes). Furthermore i feel some UI lags during work and surfing,
sometimes the device seems to freeze for several seconds. Those issues
have been reported in other releases some time ago, maybe the build
from robill has just some customization of the others missing?

Hi TK,

Thanks for the info, keep them coming :) I am going to work on the camera this weekend,
hopefully can release another build with working camera soon.

Youtube, sofar I know, still doesn't work on all ICS-x86 builds (anyone knows better?).

For white screen issues, I believe it opengl related since force "CPU rendering" resolves it.

For lag/freeze issues, does it happen only when you force "CPU rendering"?

PS: thanks also for upload to mediafire!

ok, i got full market access using this Post:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297912

basically you have to edit /etc/hosts and add the mentioned line
"74.125.93.113 android.clients.google.com".

Then i did a reboot and after that i went through google account
setting an now am downloading via market. :D yeeeha!

Remember never to shut down the application when it freezes, allways
wait for it (when the system asks you to shut down google.frameworks
or market)

It seems to freeze several times and takes some minutes but finally
you can get your google account and thereby market access. btw i used
the 3.4.4-market-apk

Hi,

i will describe what i did in detail:

1) follow xda developers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1349902
(first post,I just did evry step mentioned there)
2) reboot device
3) open /etc/hosts as root with a text editor app (you can copy the
file, edit it, save again as "hosts" without file ending and then
replace the original in /etc/hosts)
4) my original hosts file showed just one entry (ip adress from my
AP), i simply entered a second line with "74.125.93.113
android.clients.google.com" in it and replaced the original file with
my edited one. refering to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1297912
(at the bottom of the post)
5) start market app

I'm sorry, but you have to read the mentioned posts before you can
proceed. Furthermore my hosts file wont be usefull because the first
line in it is individual depending on your WiFi-AP (i think)...

If you still dont get it to work, maybe you can write your steps in
detail. Then we might find out the problem together.

This is sort of off topic but.
To the OP or anyone else that has bluetooth for your Lenovo s10-3t.
Can you send me a link where you bought it so I can buy one? Thanks.
Also are we ever going to be able to get certain apps to work? Swype,
Angry Birds, Music Player and some other apps?
And is there any known way to Usb tether my android phone to my Lenovo
s10-3t running android?

Hi all!
And sorry for my English.

When I install android, I don't want to overwrite MBR.
So I set it without GRUB (question: it is GRUB or a GRUB2?)
I have a few questions. Can I boot android using EasyBSD? How can I
add start android in GRUB2 in my Kubuntu?
I found a useful post:
http://pundiramit.blogspot.com/2011/08/dual-booting-android-x86-and-ubuntu.html
but loader said that first I need to run the kernel.

It is grub in Android- grup2 is still beta and you have grub2 on ubuntu
For information about the kernel - i have similar problem when configuraton with Android in grub2 is wrong check my config :
menuentry "Android" {
    set root=(hd0,3)
    linux /android......../kernel quit root=/dev/ram0 .....
}
This config i've got from Android grub. I've changed only first world kernel for linux. Remember that hdx,y y is counting from 1 not from 0.

known guide for this:
http://www.ceh-photo.de/blog/?p=357

quote:

Did you mean "EasyBCD"? If yes, I myself tried to do that, but not
with EasyBCD.
Basically I want to load android-x86 using windows 7 boot manager
(using bcdedit):

http://diddy.boot-land.net/grub4dos/files/install_windows.htm#windows2

The way I did was (warning: really need to know what you are doing!):
1. install grub manually on the android partition (not MBR!).
2. create boot record image for that partition using dd if= ...
(512bytes).
3. copy that image on windows 7 partitiion.
4. create entry on windows 7 boot manager.
5. point that entry to the newly created boot image.

I expected it to work, but unfortunately it didn't. Please don't ask
me for
the details, because I don't remember :)
Let us know if somebody managed to get it to work!

regards.

Hi,

for those of you who want an Win7 / Android double-boot-system and
don't need the sd-card-slot for anything else (you have still 2 usb-
ports left...), here is how i did it:

1) make shure you have an sd-card with 2-3 gb space on it (mine was 8
gb, so i needed to make a 2gb partition on the sd-card... google-
search tells you how to do)

2) in win7 use Lili-USB-Creator to make a bootable USB-Stick out of
robills iso.

3) shut down system, put in both usb and sdcard, reboot

4) get into boot menu, choose usb-stick

5) install do harddisk (now be careful you choose the right partition.
usually the sd-card should be something like sdbX where X is a certain
number)

6) format with ext3, if you like use fake sdcard option (would only
work up to 1024 MB)

7) reboot, go to boot menu, pick sd-card to boot, enjoy android

The Trick for me was to make a bootable Partition on the sd-card.
Otherwise the installation will pass well, but the sd-card will not be
bootable. There is somehow a limitation in size of bootable sd-cards
(on the other hand the machine boots harddiscs and usb-sticks wihout
limitation...). After limiting my sd-card-partition to 2 gb, it booted
like a charm.

Hi Op,

Thank you so much for your hard work. Is there anyway to root this? Or
is it already rooted? I try to run Titanium Backup, the message
'cannot acquire root access'.

If anyone have done this please post? Thank you so much.

robill,

I am using a HP TM2.  It works with the 2.2 generic release (touch screen but no wifi).  It works with ICS ASUS laptop release (no touch and no wifi).  I was hoping that your modes would work for me but it must have been builts on the eeepc ICS release.  I have problems with the eeepc version as it get to the initial screen then comes up with the UI not working window.  I am getting this with your version as well.

It would be great if you could get the touch and broadcom wifi working on the ASUS laptop ICS release.  Then I am sure it would work for me.

Otherwise give us some detail instructions on how to get the touch screen working and the broadcom wifi driver installed.

thx

hi,

first of all, I am only supporting build for Lenovo S103T (which I personally have). There are a lot of different x86
models here, never heard of yours before though. Each model has most likely a quite different hardware, so
I am sorry to say that an attempt to answer your question here seems futile. If you are a developer and try
to build yourself, you might want to search more information about your model and lurking in this group long
enough to get bits of information of particular hardware that corresponds to yours. If you are a user, then I guess
you have no choice than to wait for a developer who has the same model as yours or start learning to build :)
Anyway, once I am done with the next build I will push my changes to the git server, so s103t users can build
their own build, so anyone can see what changes was done.

regards,

Robill

Hi everybody, I'm trying to install google apps as stated some posts
above but I can't copy Vending.apk to system/app as I don't have root
access. How am I supposed to do it? Sorry but I've been rooting only
phones where there are step by step guides that make this very easy
Thanks in advance
