can't wake up the device

I have installed an instance of android-x86 from android-x86-4.4-r2.iso, tryed it in virtualbox and vmware player. I prefer vmware player because it correctly shows the mouse pointer while in virtualbox i have to estimate(guess) where the pointer is.

I do have one problem that i can't circumvent: the operating system sleeps when idle for some time and i can't recover from that, have to reboot. I have tried to press and hold ESC and the arrow keys without success, any hints?

I have a similar problem;I apologize in advance if this topic has already been discussed on in the forum.
My Android installion went to sleep, and I could not get it to wake up. I performed an emergency shutdown
by holding the power button down on my computer. Ever since then, my Android installion just hangs at the
Android splash screen.

Is there any why to fix this without reinstalling Android? This the second time this type of thing has happened.
