Camera custom vendor metadata

Hi!

In Android Camera HAL (version 2) there is a callback function (get_metadata_vendor_tag_ops [1]) used to setup callbacks for adding "vendor extension metadata", since (afaik) there is no way to access access/modify this extended metadata from the Java API, what would be the purpose of having this possibility of adding extended metadata? I've tried googling around for some examples of where it's used but haven't found any, so was hoping anyone here would have had some experience of it.
