If you noticed Diane's email address ( hac...@android.com ) and her
rich posting history on Android mailing lists, they indicate that you
should listen to what she says.
Gingerbread is the next Android release. The public does not know
what Android version it will be. If Diane says it is not 3.0, then we
might guess that Gingerbread is Android 2.3 or 2.5.

Suggests that the API for Google TV will be available in early 2011.
Whether it is a future Android release (likely) or a separate release
(unlikely) is not defined, but it is too late for your class this
semester anyway.
In any case, the latest rumors (and they are just rumors) are that
more information will be publicly available in the next week or two,
