why must we use "-static" on linking standalone executable ?

Hello,

On trying to build some tool with my cross compiler, it refused to run on android target.

Only after adding "-static" to linker it could run.

Does anyone understands why ?

Can you please send output for following command?

#arm-linux-androideabi-readelf -e <shared library linked without -static>
