Need to build kernel?

Hi All,

I  have edited a file option.c from this location /drivers/usb/serial/option.c
Do i have build kernel?
Is there any way that i can compile this file?

run make in the kernel root or go to the folder where option.c is
placed and run make.If you are cross-compiling it export the tool
chain and architecture before doing this.
