Registration ID expiration on GCM

To my understanding, on C2DM registration ID could expire on X amount of time, that could be hours, days or weeks. The solution was to ask for a new one every Y hours, days or weeks and then store it on the 3rd party server for further use of push messages.

Is the same here on GCM? or once you have your registration ID, it will NEVER expire and push messages can be delivered ALWAYS?
