Using Social Media to Support Research Management

With an increasing amount of our personal and work life being played out
through social media, it is becoming essential for research managers,
administrators and academics to explore and exploit social media outlets for
research management, research development and impact.

This workshop will explore how research managers and administrators might
use social media, such as Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and specialist
software (e.g. Make Paper and Journal Map) to promote discussion on key
aspects of their role and understand how to enhance their research impact.

Themes:

- To promote discussion (with research managers and administrators) or
publicise information (to academic colleagues) around key aspects of their
role e.g. funding opportunities, new policy areas such as Open Access etc.

- To understand and advise academics on how to use social media to promote
and disseminate their research and to enhance research impact.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

. Understand how social media can be used to support research management,
research development and impact.

. Be aware of some of the common, and less common, social media platforms
that are available.

. Have reflected on the skills that they might require to successfully
engage with social media in support of research  management, research
development and impact.

. Have had the opportunity to discuss challenges and issues in relation to
their own institutional practice.

Speakers

Speakers will include Professor Andy Mia, Chair in Science Communication and
Digital Media at the University of Salford and research managers involved in
using social media for research management, research development and impact
at LSE and the universities of Kent and Nottingham.

Target Audience
