I've searched for this, but found no help, just that others are using
1.93 and Win7 with no problems.

I keep getting " Error reported by winsock driver: WSAENOTSOCK (Error 10038):
Connecting to localhost."

"WSAENOTSOCK 10038 Socket operation on nonsocket.

An operation was attempted on something that is not a socket. Either the
socket handle parameter did not reference a valid socket, or for select, a
member of an fd_set was not valid."
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms740668(v=vs.85).aspx

I have an Agent directory that I've brought with me since Agent .98 and Win95.
It's separate from Windows, I just pull a shortcut to the desktop for each new
OS. This time it's not working.

With XP I have to use Stunnel so I can POP from Gmail.com so it runs as well.

Upgrading to 6.0 isn't an option.

I am using a 64 bit Win7, but I'm also using a 64bit XP that Agent works well
from. Done the backward compatibility in Properties, nada.

Any help/clues?

Thanks

Maybe it is something with your STunnel configuration that
is not happy when running on Win7 64 bit

Your stunnel.conf file should look something like this

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~cut~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[pop3s]
client = yes
delay = yes
accept = 127.0.0.1:110
connect = pop.gmail.com:995
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~cut~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Q.1 Are you able to post your stunnel.conf file?

Q.2 Which AV are you using on Win7 ?
Some AV programs may take over port 110. In that case you would
have to use a different port between Agent and STunnel (e.g. port
8110). This needs setting up both in AGENT.INI and in stunnel.conf

Q.3 On the "accept" line, are you using "127.0.0.1:" or "localhost:"?
AFAICT in Win7 64 bit you need to use "127.0.0.1:".

I am posting this with Agent 1.93 and STunnel on Win7 64 bit,
so the combination does work.\

Also 99d(32bit) runs on Win7(Home Premium (x64) Service Pack 1).

You in luck I'm using Win7as my OS.

Sorry I can't help you with Stunnel.

Unfortunately I can't get either 0.99 or 1.93 to work with "Windows 8
Developer Preview" however Agent6 works with it.

Ned

I have run STunnel 4.04 on Win7-64 with no problems.

I used to use STunnel 4.04 with Agent to access the secnews
news server, while secnews was still running.

Running in native Win7-64, not in an XP VM.

Pretty much everything, actually. 1.93 is no problem if you use a
correct data path (something under your %appdata%), I don't recall if
1.93 did so automatically or not, but if not, you could certainly
configure it manually.

Microsoft's application development standards have included correct
locations for data file since well before 1.93 was released.

Note that if an author were bothering to follow Microsoft's programming
standards written anywhere from the 90s on up, they'd already be using
the correct directory (or rather, the correct API to retrieve the
correct directory) and this simply wouldn't be an issue.

No issue for the setup app, but it's still an issue for the person
doing a manual migration.

Be darn, just came across my own post looking for help on stunnel.

One can and I do run 1.93 in Win7, the way I've found to do this is through DEP.
Goto System Properties (WinKey + Pause/Break) > Performance > settings (duh) > Data Execution Prevention (DEP).

Select turn on Dep - except those I select - then hit "Add" search for the location of your Agent.exe

Agent is a stand alone or now called Legacy program, mine sits in a directory on my D:\ drive so it's never affected by any new installs of your OS. I have some of my first posts, from the days we were figuring out NT.

The things we taught each other; have a long path and don't want to type it in being the lazy oaf you are. Open the run command and copy the file to the run window, copy the path.

I have never needed to touch the DEP setting, to run Agent 1.93 in Win7.
