Why are we suddenly being flooded with Newsgroup postings? Personally I am not
a fan of that. A seperate echo for that sort of stuff might be better served
I think. Any thoughts?

I fully agree with that!

Hi Joe.

The recently resurrected Fidonet echoarea X-FILES (dormant since 2006) is
linked to alt.tv.x-files so as to connect the few people in Fidonet interested
in the TV show with a corrosponding few people in the Usenet newsgroup. It
allows everyone to discuss their common topic of interest.

The 'flood' as you put it was approximately 40 messages dating back to November
2015. That's not really a big number for three months worth of postings. And
compare that to the 18 messages generated in Fidonet for period since the
echoarea was restarted over the same time period. These are hardly big
numbers IMHO.

I imagine there will be burts of activity as folks post about the next several
episodes as they air - all good on-topic stuff. Feel free to join in the
conversation about X-Files if you would like to do so. If you don't want to,
that's your choice also.

Best, Paul

So is this stuff all filtered out of Google Groups? I'm stuck with GG for the moment and don't see any of it.

Yes, but everytime someone has attempted to do such, it has met with a certain
opposition. You get complaints form the Usenet people about how the fidonet
people do not know the proper protocol to post in usenet, ect. and of course
the other way around. It would be best if you gate, to have a dedicated echo
for that in my opinion at least. I've seen some heavy arguments over the
years.

I don't know. I do not use Google Groups, nor Usenet.

Fair comment and taken on board. I will disconnect the gateway tonight when I
get home. Apologise to folks on both sides if my actions (all be it well
intended) upset some.

So I just grabbed the latest (and final) build of Unison and logged
into my ES account. Much better than Google Groups. Well, probably
noy but it sure feels better.
