I don't think it is ever revealed that Cancer Man was Mulder's
father. All that is known is that Cancer Man had an affair with Mulder's
mother. He even remembers the kid's (Fox and Samantha) being around.
How can you say this is *known*?
ALthough he _does_ tell Mulder in the hospital "I've known your mother
since before you were born." However - I choose NOT to believe that he is
Mulder's actual father; it would be too warped if CC actually used an idea
that had been bruited about on the net as a _joke_! I think CC is just
trying to make sure that we don't get too cozy in _any_ of our
assumptions.

what a good water skiier he was? pretty tolerant guy
if they're having their affair right under his nose.
That would make Mr.X his long-lost third cousin from Tuscaloosa...

Ummm, because he says it (very greatly implies) while talking to Mrs.
Mulder. She also hints (very strongly) about this.
He talks about the "good times" they had at the summer cabin when the
kids were "young and energetic" and how he (Cancer Man) was a better
water skiier than Bill Maulder but, "that could be said about a lot of
things" he adds.
Cancer Man and Mrs. Mulder got it on at the summer cabin and the kids
were already around. Cancer Man is not Fox's father, only an affair
happened.
All this talk about the CSM being Mulder's father is hogwash, he
neversaid it or implied it. Pure speculation.
I think Muldar's father is that morphing alien Smith guy (or one
of the Smiths, at any rate.)
I lost 5 min. of the episode due to cable outage, so I'm still
trying to figure out what it all means. heavy reliogious overtones,
eh?
And now I'm wondering if the cliffhanger ending will have the
killer alien morphing into Muldar's dad, thereby preventing
Scully from shooting him/it with her gun?
it's gonna be a long summer.

I won't go so far as to say that it "is known," but I definitely got
the same impression. I felt that the viewer was led to believe Ma
Mulder and Cancer Man had an affair. That seemed to be the gist of the
conversation. But I thought that the writers were being very pointed by
having Cancerman talk about "the kids" running around. To me, that
implied that the affair took place after Fox and Samantha were born.
That was just my reading of it anyway.
Actually, the "affair with Cancerman" was the most revealing and
disturbing part of the whole episode. The rest was rather, well, rather
boring, IMHO. Not the cliffhanger I expected.

No way that cancer man is Mulder's Dad. Just cause he knew Mulders mom b4
Mulder was born? So what. So was Bob Dole, if he knew Ms. Mulder would he
also be a canidate as Mulder's dad.

What seems to be a little lost here is the idea that CSman would
refrain at this late date from whacking our boy, Fox, purely because of
the "one man's martyrdom" premise. (X as much as said that that was
wearing thin.) He owed a "debt" to Mulder's father but with him dead
and Mulder getting closer to the truth there has to be a reason for him
to stay his thugs. What would be more natural than an even stronger
connection to Fox's Mother? He restrains the forces of darkness because
he still has feelings for her.

Actually I've only watched one SAAB. As soon as I saw the cast, it was
all downhill. It's the wrong vehicle for Morgan, Wong, and maybe any
writer. The SAAB cast is a disaster.
Please I think Chris has more class then to recycle an old
idea. I don't think Chris thinks that Xphiles are that dum?

As I said in an earlier post. . .
CC said we were gonna be pissed off for the summer. . .I guess he kept his
promise because if CM turned out to be "Daddy-Dearest" that would be at
the top of my "Ten Reasons Why I'm Pissed Off" list. . .
I don't think CC would do that to us - - do you?? PUH-LEASE someone
agree with me.

It sounds like Richard Burton, Eddie Fisher and Elizabeth Taylor.
Eddie Fisher didn't know what hit him, the same way Debbie Fisher didn't
know what hit her.
Well you have to set your VCR channel to the X-Files channel, otherwise
you could accidently set your VCR channel to another channel and mistakenly
hit that TV/VCR toggle switch on your VCR remote control and advance the
TV channel to the X-Files channel
- and thus watch X-Files on TV while the VCR tapes something else.

Anyone else sick of reading this line?
It's not true, although I *did* expect Cancerman to tell Fox to give in
to the dark side.
I do! I do!
That's why we can't stop.

You're stupid for reading it so many times.

There's a better chance that Cancer Man is Samantha's father

I think that the line where cancer man says "[something about him better
than mulder senior at water sking] but that could be said about soo many
thing couldn't it." was a definate hint. Also what was the cause of the
divorce? Why did mulder's mom want to saty out of the house? Maybe because
it held such memories of her and smoking man and betrayal?
I think that smoking man has a history where he used to be a nice guy and
then turned into the heartless deamon that his is today, it would be
interesting to know more about what he was like before his transformation.

Remember when they showed a circa 1944 scene with Mulder's dad and CancerGuy?
It was when the oily creature escaped the ocean through the deep sea salvager.
CM's been a badass for a LONG time.

Agreed, thats why when Bill Mulder had to make a "choice" of either
fox or sam, he picked sam because he suspected she wasn't his. plus
CSM would be more likely to look after her (since she is his) than a
kid that isn't his.

x-phile that thinks Mulder and Scully should get together
It's also a way for Bill to "get back at" Cancer Man, by sacrificing
Samantha to an "experiment".
