FAIRFIELD An owner of the closed America Live bar doesnt think much
of her Bar Rescue from Spike TV.
The financially troubled former Win, Place or Show was in such
disarray after the TV crew left in April that we had to close for
several days We were left with a nightmare, said Amber Glacken, former
bar manager. It closed in July.
Glacken and co-owner Barry Rogers and the rest of the nation will
see the episode Sunday (9 p.m., Spike TV) filmed in early April.
Restaurant expert JonTaffer and his crew remodeled and renamed the bar
at 7121 Dixie Highway (Ohio 4), near Mack and Muhlhauser roads, and
implemented a barbecue menu.
Taffer didnt like anything at the bar, which had operated for years as
a biker bar called Charlies Throttle Shop. He said Rogers first
mistake was not changing the name when he bought it from owners of the
Win, Place or Show in West Chester Township.
Taffer also complained about the greasy food, lack of cleanliness and
the staffs inept bartending skills. Bar Rescue installed a new drink
dispenser, repainted the interior and brought in the Halestorm rock band
for a grand opening party.
Rogers said on camera in April that he was $100,000 in debt, and
could be closing in 30 days or less. It lasted 2-1/2 months.
Although the show gives you a makeover, they do not give you any funds
to replace your net sales you lose while they are there, said Glacken,
who will be seen on the show buying out former co-owner Dave Marcum,
also known as Cincinnati Sinners guitarist Rudy Garcia. However, Marcum
told The Enquirer in July he sold his interest before the Bar Rescue
taping.
The show portrays Marcum as the bars problem.
Rudy used that bar as a platform for him to play rock star, drink, and
be a big shot, all at the expense of his business, Taffer told The
Enquirer Friday.
I didnt create that situation, he did. I guess when someone is
embarrassed on national TV, as Rudy will surely be after watching on
Sunday, theyll say just about anything to change the perception. I
stand by my work and sincere desire to help him, Taffer said.
Behind on their rent, the landlord locked out Rogers and Glacken in
July, despite knowing we were about to get big publicity from the (TV)
show, Glacken said. We lost all of our lifes saving, and were left
with a terrible financial situation.
