What does "T" stand for in Sherman T. Potter?

(And please, don't say 'Tiberius.')

Great trivia question. I may use this in the future. Anyway, here's what
I found.
Col. Potter was named after General William 'T' Sherman - therefore the
'T' stands for Tecumseh.

Thanks for the question, Matt!

I don't know if I explained in any episode, but the idea was that, like Harry
S. Truman, who had no given middle name put simply put that "S" in there
because it made him sound more impressive, Potter adopted the "T" for the same
reason.

Makes sense. Potter's character was Trumanesque, in many respects. I
believe one ep had him mentioning WW1 service with his fellow
Missourian.

Quote for the Month - "And So This Is Christmas; And What Have We Done?;
Another Year Over; A New One Just Begun; And So Happy Christmas; I Hope
You Have Fun; The Near And The Dear Ones; The Old And The Young;" - John
Lennon, "Happy Christmas ( War Is Over )"

Exactly. That's why we aped Truman's deed.

I believe the ep was Dear Ma where Hawk is giving a foot inspection.
Potter mentions he learned footcare in WW1 from Captain Harry S. Truman
no less.
