I noticed in the opening credits for Friday's TBJ (featuring Lorraine Bracco
as the bad defense attorney) the name of Ron Orbach.

Is he any relation to Jerry? I know one of Jerry's other sons was on SVU,
but I could not help but notice the name for this TBJ episode.

A followup post ... Ron Orbach is the cousin of Jerry Orbach and uncle
to Chris Orbach, Jerry's son. Ron Orbach has appeared on L&O three
times, according to the Internet Movie Database. Here's a link to his
bio:

I didn't recognize him from last week's L&O. Does anyone know what part
he played?

According to TV Tome, he played Mike (can't remember which character
that was):

???

Is Ron married to the sister of Chris' mother?
Or to Jerry's sister? If not, he's not Chris'
uncle.

If Ron is Jerry's first cousin, then he is
Chris' first cousin once removed.

Two people are Nth cousins if their latest
common ancestor is N-1 generations back.

First cousins, for instance, have one or more
grandparents in common.

If the two people are of different generations,
then the count is measured from the senior person.

"Removes" are the generational difference between
the two persons. My third cousin's grandchild is my
third cousin twice removed.

WHAT THE HECK?! I'm sorry, but this does not compute. I cannot see how Ron
Orbach can be both cousin to Jerry Orbach AND uncle to Jerry's son. If Ron
and Jerry are cousins, Ron and Chris would be first cousins, once removed.

Cousin (a.k.a "first cousin")
Your first cousins are the people in your family who have two of the same
grandparents as you. In other words, they are the children of your aunts and
uncles.

Second Cousin
Your second cousins are the people in your family who have the same
great-grandparents as you., but not the same grandparents.

Third, Fourth, and Fifth Cousins
Your third cousins have the same great-great-grandparents, fourth cousins
have the same great-great-great-grandparents, and so on.

Removed
When the word "removed" is used to describe a relationship, it indicates
that the two people are from different generations. You and your first
cousins are in the same generation (two generations younger than your
grandparents), so the word "removed" is not used to describe your
relationship.

The words "once removed" mean that there is a difference of one generation.
For example, your mother's first cousin is your first cousin, once removed.
This is because your mother's first cousin is one generation younger than
your grandparents and you are two generations younger than your
grandparents. This one-generation difference equals "once removed."
Twice removed means that there is a two-generation difference. You are two
generations younger than a first cousin of your grandmother, so you and your
grandmother's first cousin are first cousins, twice removed.

He could if he was the brother of Jerry Orbachs wife. Of course that
would require Jerry Orbach to marry one of his cousins.

Or married to the sister of Chris' mother (Jerry's wife).
That would make him Chris' uncle by marriage.

There was a Russian-German actress named Olga Chekhova.

She was Anton Chekhov's niece by marriage, twice. Her
father's sister was married to Chekhov, _and_ she was
married to the son of Chekhov's brother.
