I thought I remembered reading in the official rules that you can't
have family or friends as finalists in the same game you're in. I just
skimmed the rules quickly but couldn't find it... so either my memory's
goin', I didn't read carefully enough, or they changed that rule.

Anyone else remember seeing this??

He's from Monterey Park, California, my old hometown. Little known
tidbits...he lived about two blocks down the street from where I used to
live! My mom even occasionally babysat he and the other kids when they
were younger. I didn't really know him too well personally. We were
four years apart in school.

If you're out there, Jason, congratulations!

Since they start in different episodes, the family restriction doesn't
apply.

But are they related? Hmmm... All I will say for now is that the
Sunday contestant Bordin is "tailor-made for the new WWTBAM".

Am I the only person who suspects we will see Sal again on a future
show? Just after the 30 second phone call ended, Regis first asked
Sal, "Traditional Italian family I guess, right?". He then asks "And
this is a, I think its a Mexican dish, right?"

Even though Sal would have likely gone with "flour" as his answer
anyway due to his brother giving him that answer, I can't help but
think that Regis' otherwise innocent comment could be seen as just
enough to throw Sal off the track of the right answer. In fact, when
I thought about it a little bit, if I were faced with an unfamiliar
dish, given the choice of eggs or flour as the main ingredient and
then told that it was a Mexican dish, I would tend to lean towards
flour since flour is used so much in Mexican cooking for things like
tortilla, sauces and other things.

Sal really seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I really do hope we get
to see him again soon.

And I am just about 100% sure that Jason has appeared on at least one
other game show at some point, if not more than one other. At this
hour, although I can clearly see his face in my memory from a previous
game show, I can't bring the memory in clear enough to figure out what
the show is.

Doesn't matter. The one thing they drill into the heads of the
contestants (and several here can attest to this) is that REGIS DOESN'T
KNOW THE ANSWERS. There are probably several very good reasons for doing
that, but one big one has to be so that contestants can't come back later
and say Regis misled them, intentionally or not.

I'm firmly with the people who complain that Regis talks about the
question itself far too much, far too often. Still, it's a known
quantity going in, and the contestants are specifically instructed not to
let ANYTHING he says sway them.

Now if only we could convince MoreBooze of that fact so he'll stop bitching
about Regis "prompting" the contestants.

No offence, but that isn't entirely true. What they are told is that
Regis isn't GIVEN the answers in advance, which is not at all the same
thing. Airhead that he is, Regis has some life experience and is quite
capable of knowing some of the answers independently, and perhaps even
unconciously trying to lead contestants.

The contestants are told that Regis is not given the answers, but that
he is shown all the questions in the stack so that he can
pronounce/orate the question correctly.

Don't be fooled by his on-air persona - a lot of that "hyper-goofy"
attitude is a put-on because it sells well to many people. I've seen
interview with Regis where he comes across as quiet, calm and
intelligent; they're rare, but they do exist. And he did go to Notre
Dame on a scholarship, so he can't be a complete airhead.

It sure doesn't help him much!

No offense taken, since I've made the same semantic argument myself a couple of
times. Nevertheless, we've seen behind-the-scenes video where the producer
does, in fact, tell the contestants that Regis doesn't know the answers. You're
correct to point out that this is wrong, that of course any sentient human is
going to know SOME of the answers, but that's what the players are told, or at
least were being told at one time.

Still, the point I was making is that the contestants are clearly and
specifically told to not let anything Regis says or does influence them.
They're told a number of different ways ("It's not his money" is another
favorite). The fact that they let Regis influence them into a wrong answer, or
away from a correct one, is not going to be grounds for bringing a player back.
