Snipping crossposts...

My list, by category (most favorite category to least) is below.

Dance movies (in order of how much I loved them, most to least - although a
dance movie is never least to me):

The Turning Point
The Red Shoes
White Nights
Dirty Dancing
Shall We Dance
All That Jazz
Fame
Honey
Strictly Ballroom
A Chorus Line
Save the Last Dance

Science Fiction Movies (most to least liked - and this category is short
since Hollywood doesn't do good SciFi)

The Fifth Element
Independence Day
Armageddon
Blade Runner
The Lord of the Rings trilogy (though not sure if this is SciFi)
Stargate
Star Wars - Return of the Jedi
Jurassic Park
Alien

Comedies (in order of funniest to least funny):

Over the Hedge
Shrek 2
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Blazing Saddles
The Birdcage
A Fish Called Wanda
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
There's Something About Mary
Pretty in Pink

"Chick Flick" Movies (most liked to least):

Casablanca
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Sleepless in Seattle
The English Patient
Dr. Zhavago
Sabrina (the 1954 version)
Steel Magnolias
The Big Chill
Terms of Endearment
Fried Green Tomatoes
Beaches
Somewhere in Time
When Harry Met Sally
An Officer and a Gentleman
Bridget Jones's Diary
Sense and Sensibility
What Women Want
Electric Dreams
Ghost
(gosh, I could list hundreds in the category, but I'll stop here)

Ghost Stories (most liked to least):

What Lies Beneath
The Haunting
The Others
Poltergeist

Action Movies (most liked to least):

Raiders of the Lost Ark
Live Free or Die Hard

OK, that's all I'll list, although, being a HUGE movie buff I could list
*thousands* of movies I loved.

Hugs,

CatNipped

Seeing as this has morphed into a list of favorites, rather than
under-rated, I will add some favorites and, hopefully, some of them will
also qualify as under-rated or nearly forgotten.

If you haven't seen it, rent "Tales of Hoffman" based on the Offenbach
opera of the same name, but with most of the roles played by dancers lip
syncing. It's from the same production team as "The Red Shoes" and
features many of the same legendary dancers: Massine, Helpman, Shearer,
et al.

Haven't seen either of these - I'll have to check them out since I never
miss a dance movie if I can help it.

A short list would be hard for me to do, so here's 10 starting with the
letter S:

Shy People
The Sweet Hereafter
Smilla's Sense of Snow
Spider
Saving Grace
Stormy Monday
The Stunt Man
Sorcerer
Six Degress of Separation
Shadowlands

and had it not already been mentioned I would have included Shoot the
Moon.

"License To Drive " - Are you serious? I love this film, but
underrated? Come on! What, should it have won an Oscar or something?
Should it have propelled Feldman or Haim to superstar status (they
were already there at the time)?
