John Travolta's 16-year-old son, Jett, died Friday morning at the family's
vacation home in The Bahamas after what the family's lawyer says was a
seizure-related incident.
The family, including Jett Travolta's mother, Kelly Preston, and his
8-year-old sister, Ella, had been celebrating the New Year in The Bahamas.
"A nanny attempted to revive him, all attempts were made, but he couldn't be
revived," Travolta's attorney, Michael Ossi, who is also in The Bahamas,
told ABCNews.com. "They tried as hard as they could to revive Jett."
Ossi added that the teenager "has had seizures in the past, but they were
controlled. This one couldn't be."
The seizure may be only part of the story. Royal Bahamas Police Force
spokeswoman Loretta Mackey told the Associated Press that Jett Travolta died
from hitting his head in a bathtub.
Jett Travolta's health made national news in 2002. It was at this time that
his mother disclosed that at age 2 he had had a poorly understood condition
known as Kawasaki syndrome, a collection of symptoms that stem from swollen
arteries.
Researchers believe that inflammation from Kawasaki syndrome, or KS, can
lead to convulsions and seizures.
KS primarily affects children under the age of 5, though it can occur in
older children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,
about nine out of 100,000 children have KS. Incidence is higher among
Japanese and Korean children, though KS can occur among any ethnicity.
However, KS expert Dr. Robert Frenck, a professor of pediatrics in the
division of infectious disease at the Cincinnati Children's Hospital, said
KS is not usually associated with deadly seizures -- especially in children
who have already recovered from KS, which he said is a temporary condition.
"If there's a major complication, and if someone dies from it, it is a
[coronary] aneurysm," he said. "It doesn't happen frequently, but that is
what we really worry about. ... That can set the kids up for a heart
attack."
Frenck added that the only type of seizure that can occur in patients with
KS is a febrile seizure, which arises from a high fever.
The New York Post and other media outlets have suggested in past reports
that the Travolta's son has autism, though the family has always maintained
that their son's condition is KS. Autism is also associated with seizures.
"There is a relationship between autism and seizures; as many as 40 percent
of children and young adults with autism may experience seizure, and
adolescence is a particular time of vulnerability," said Dr. Bryan King,
director of child and adolescent psychiatry at Seattle Children's Hospital's
Research Center for Health Services and Behavioral Research.
"There are hormonal changes that could increase the risk of seizure, and
certainly there are ongoing brain changes that take place during
adolescence, but no one knows why the risk increases in older children."
Regardless of the cause, Ossi said that the family is now grieving. He added
that the incident "is the worst pain any parent can experience, the loss of
child."
Speaking for John Travolta, Ossi said, "This is the worst day of his life."
Ossi said that Dr. Mark Smith, the Travolta family doctor, plans to give a
statement after the autopsy.

Saw some more recent video of Jett with his family on LKL. He certainly has
the appearance of being on the autism spectrum. Poor kid.

Sorry, no nym change, just a different computer.
What a sad and tragic situation. If Jett did have autism, and didn't even
have language skills, I would surmise he also had severe sensory problems.
poor poor kid. And with all that money they have, he could have had the

Admittedly this was my first impression, that Scientology is a deadly
cult and I wonder if it played any part in this tragedy, but that
isn't what the article says. There seems to be a lot of jumping to
conclusions here.

There have been stories from long before today concerning this boy.
June 1, 2007 -- JOHN Travolta, 53, and his wife, Kelly Preston, 44, just
announced they want to try for their third child - even while they fall
under increasing pressure to publicly acknowledge the disability of their
son, Jett.
Travolta has either pretended there is nothing wrong with Jett, 15, or
claimed his condition is Kawasaki syndrome, a disease characterized by high
fever, skin rash and swelling of the lymph nodes.
But parents of autistic children say that Travolta should join Sylvester
Stallone, Doug Flutie, Jenny McCarthy and Toni Braxton, who all have
autistic kids, in raising awareness and research funds to cure the disease.
One magazine editor who has interviewed Travolta more than once says that
the star's son is disabled - and yet he continues to behave as if nothing is
wrong.
"Travolta sits there in interviews talking about how Jett loves to read or
play sports, but it is clear that the boy can barely do either," the editor
said.

It's a shame that he wasn't helped. In all the photo's I've seen of him,
his eyes avoid the camera. In the video, he is being led by his father or
his mother. Certainly not the actions of a teenage boy. Kids like this
need help and early intervention. I simply find it so sad, this poor boy.
How does anyone know he had a seizure? All the reports say 'he was found by
a staff member'. Nobody saw what happened to him.
``There was unspoken communication between the two. ...
AFAIK, Kawasaki disease isn't associated with lack of speech. And the
seizures are usually coupled with high fevers. And usually in *young*
children, not 16 yr. olds.
John Travolta's 16-year-old son dies in Bahamas
By JUAN McCARTNEY
NASSAU, Bahamas (AP) - John Travolta's teenage son, Jett, died in the
Bahamas after apparently suffering a seizure and hitting his head at his
family's vacation home, authorities said Friday.
A house caretaker found Jett, 16, unconscious in a bathroom late Friday
morning. He was taken by ambulance to a Freeport hospital, where he was
pronounced dead, Police Superintendent Basil Rahming said in a statement.
The teenager had last been seen entering the bathroom on Thursday and had a
history of seizures, according to the statement. An autopsy is planned.
Jett apparently hit his head on the bathtub, said a police officer who
declined to be named because she was not authorized to speak on the matter.
Family attorney Michael Ossi said in a statement that Jett died suddenly on
Friday. Publicists Samantha Mast and Paul Block released the statement but
could not be reached for additional comment.
Jett was the oldest child of Travolta, 54, and his wife, actress Kelly
Preston, 46, who also have an 8-year-old daughter, Ella Bleu.
Preston and Travolta have said that Jett became very sick when he was 2
years old and was diagnosed with Kawasaki disease, an illness that leads to
inflammation of the blood vessels in young children. She blamed household
cleaners and fertilizers, and said that a detoxification program based on
teachings from the Church of Scientology helped improve his health,
according to People magazine. Both Travolta and Preston are practicing
Scientologists.
``I was obsessive about his space being cleaned. We constantly had the
carpets cleaned,'' Travolta said in a 2001 interview with CNN's Larry King,
a portion of which was rebroadcast on the Larry King Live show Friday night.
During that interview, when Jett was 9, Travolta spoke of how his son nearly
died when he was 2.
It is unclear whether Jett was taking any medications for his seizures.
The Scientology Celebrity Center in Los Angeles declined to comment.
A spokeswoman for Rand Memorial Hospital in Freeport said she could not
release any information because of privacy concerns.
The family had arrived in the Bahamas on a private plane Tuesday and was
vacationing at their home in the Old Bahama Bay resort community.
``The Travolta family has become like family to us at Old Bahama Bay and we
extend our deepest sympathies to them,'' said Robert Gidel, president of
Ginn Resorts, the property's owner.
Travolta's corporate and commercial attorney, Michael McDermott, said the
actor had a very strong relationship with his son.
``There was unspoken communication between the two. ... It's just so hard,''
he said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. ``Kelly is very
quiet and both are grieving.''
McDermott said his family and other friends are with the couple in the
Bahamas. The group came for a two-day New Year's celebration and had planned
to return to Florida on Sunday.
``We're are all here and trying to help in any way we can,'' McDermott said.
``Their pain is so evident.''
Obie Wilchcombe, a parliament member and former tourism minister in the
Bahamas, said Travolta ``spent a tremendous amount of time with Jett.''
``He always brought him along. There was a close affectionate relationship
and lots of love,'' Wilchcombe told Larry King Live in a live telephone
interview. ``People in the old Bahama community today are in shock.''
Wilchcombe said an autopsy was scheduled for Monday and that ``we expect a
quick resolution.''
``John spoke with the minister of health and the doctors and police are at
the hospital. They're very, very quick to resolve things,'' he said.
Travolta, who gained fame as Vinnie Barbarino on the 1970s television show
``Welcome Back, Kotter'' and the 1977 film ``Saturday Night Fever,'' went on
to become one of Hollywood's biggest names. He married Preston in 1991.
A television actress, Preston appeared with Travolta in the 2000 film
``Battlefield Earth,'' based on a novel by Scientology founder L. Ron
Hubbard.
Wilchcombe said the Travoltas had invited 60 friends for the New Year's
holiday weekend.
``They're needed today more than ever before,'' he said.
Oh geez what a crock of shit. What you call DENIAL... others call
RIGHT TO PRIVACY. Who the hell wants their child to become a poster
child for autism... to be poked and prodded by the media? TOTALLY
understandable. They have my sympathies.
> This should be investigated, I read much over the years how Travolta

If there is an investigation, it should be for electronic harassment.
Anything that's known to aggravate autism and induce seizures.

I too doubt the autopsy will be very enlightening. I wonder if Jett was
verbal? If anyone had ever heard him speak. In the video in Paris, he
looked a bit like a deer in headlights. And all the attention was in
getting him into the vehicle and settled rather than Preston or the
daughter. He was a big kid, looked bigger than Travolta. Harder to manage

Might be a good time to start a bat farm. Have you seen the price of
guano at Amazon?
Even if the boy had not died this video would make me sad for the entire
family, withstanding that level of press knowing a lot of people just
want to see it to get a visual on the special needs child of insanely
famous parents. If you look into Kelly Preston's causes (I noticed them
while reading about this story elsewhere), she seems to be coming from a
good place - not sure I'd demonize her and John just yet.
This is sadistic voyeurism, and it is vile beyond words.
As bad, if not worse, is people using this tragedy as a anti-
Scientology pawn, particularly since no one knows yet what actually
happened or if Scientology had to do with any of it.
Also I've been noticing in the coverage of this story, somewhere it said
Jett "was an embarrassment" to the Travoltas. That got me thinking, if
the boy was protected, it's because "he was an embarrassment". If they
put the kid out there, he'd be "exploited". There's no winning in a
situation like that - and of course it's greatly exacerbated by their
fame. I don't follow Hollywood types much, but I assume they loved Jett
very much and tried their best... they have my sympathy.
There were a number of causes listed on her site:
http://www.kellypreston.com/. They seemed to be geared towards personal
responsibility, helping address and correct the root causes of some
problems... judge for yourself, everyone's different. While I just did a

I don't know enough about them, the care they gave to the boy, or the
exact cause of his death. I assume they really loved him and tried to
give him the best care available. I could be proven wrong. Maybe you
know more about the family than I do.
I have to add, now that I went back to re-read some of the descriptions
of the charities, that I don't know quite how Hubbard fits into some of
those solutions. The gist of them sounds reasonable - that was my point.
My read of some of those causes wasn't so much about complete prevention
of medication, but more that medicine isn't always the whole solution,
knowledge is power, and that parents should be armed with as much
information as possible to best serve their child (for the cause
dedicated to reformed psychiatric care of children, anyway). But I did
see L Ron Hubbard threaded thru some of it, so I may be naive about the
true nature of things.

Sounds like you know more about the situation, and I appreciate the
background. I'll go back in my hidey-hole now and wait this one out. I
still feel sad for them per that video, tho, my initial point of posting
on this thread.
I see absolutely no evidence of embarrassment whatsoever. It looks to me as
if they were all close and that his parents were extremely protective of
him. That's not to say they got proper treatment of whatever ailed him. But
to proclaim their behaviour as "embarrassment" is a bit histrionic. Maybe
they did indeed do wrong by him, but they didn't lock him away and disavow
all knowledge; from all accounts and photos etc they loved the kid very
much, while they perhaps tried to shield him from over-stimulation of the
paps - (which would be for his own good I might add). Where do you get
"embarrassment"? And how do you know what he was fed?
jc
Speaking on the issue of *embarrassment* only, to not acknowledge a
diagnosis of autism or having a child on the autism spectrum, IMO, leaves
one with a sense of 'distaste' at the disorder or something, doesn't it?
It's not that hard for wealthy people to shield and hide their children when
they are young/small. But once they become adults themselves, it gets
harder and harder to keep society from noticing 'something isn't right
here'.
It's hard to not feel sorry for poor Jett. To wonder if he had the proper
medications, proper diet, proper therapy, etc.??
td
If, indeed, their adherence to a program/religion that forbade them to
seek proper medical attention for their son, they will be feeling a lot
more than shame and sorrow, but responsibility. If they could not
admit their son was autistic (if he was) then they will live with
that, and perhaps move away from Scientology. If his parents blamed
their carpet cleaning habits for karadaki then how much more will this
affect them.
yD
And the CNN article I read said that a caretaker from the resort found
him -- where were the two nannies and the 24/7 watch on him?
yD
>
> Chocolic- Hide quoted text -

An article I read said both nannies were asleep in nearby rooms in an
1000 sq ft cottage. Jett's room had a baby monitor and there were chimes
on the door to the bathroom so the nannies would hear if he got up in
the night to use it, but apparently the chimes didn't ring or the
nannies didn't hear them.
The articles I've read refer to the 'nanny couple' as scientologists who do
wedding photography as their business.
td
And what if they figured out that his health problems were the result
of intentional sabotage by tainted vaccines... or some wacked out
medical professional looking to make noise for their own 'pet' medical
issue. I think that I'd be reluctant to allow anyone outside of my
"program/religion" to get their greasy hands on my kid, also... to do
anymore damage than has already been done. Which is why I always
suspected why Tom Cruise did things the way he did... as a
precautionary.
Ok we will pass on Jet but what about the thousands of other victims
of these fruit loops.... scientology parents should have their kids
removed until they are 18 and can make their own decisions. See
how long the cult lasts then...
You're changing the subject, which is *way* off-topic in this group.
When the OP is willing to create *another* off-topic thread
discussing in detail the treatment regimen being followed for her
grandson (so that it can be as "professionally" critiqued by the
posters here as this child's), this discussion is nothing more than
tabloid-grade gossip, asinine hubris and profound ignorance. Oh - and
sadistic voyeurism, too.
I've read several recent articles on Jett and his family this since this
happened. A couple I ran across were before this happened. Most of the
articles said John Travolta and Jett were very close and always together.
He took him everywhere.
I too am withholding judgement. Everything I have heard and read, both John
and Kelly are devastated.
Chocolic
Was he actually diagnosed as being autistic? Or are "we" just jumping on
the media bandwagon trying to demonize the Travolta's for Jett's death.
Chocolic
I can speak from experiencing a Scientologist wanting to "cure" my
niece who has WAGR syndrome, del 11p13 plus numerous other physical/
mental issues. Her brother has been mesmerized by Scientology for the
past 20+ years. Unfortunately, he doesn't have enough $$$$ to get to
the top of their ladder. But he honestly feels his sister can be
"fixed" if we, the family, will allow her to undergo "auditing"
sessions. With my nephew there is certainly a degree of who is good
enough to survive. EOD re my nephew and niece.
That being said, I am deeply saddened by the Travolta family's loss.
I believe Scientology is a cult.
I'm sorry your niece and brother have been its victims.
> That being said, I am deeply saddened by the Travolta family's
> loss.
As am I; and that sense of sadness and loss is not lessened by
blaming the family for their perceived "sins" wothout knowing a
damned thing about their real life.
I had a nephew (since deceased) that had autism. One of the symptoms was
the banging of the head and no eye contact among others.
Gluten free cookies? Aaak. :)
Chocolic
"Distaste"? I think it highly likely they had feelings for Jett's behaviour
and his deficits which were a great deal stronger than "distaste". I happen
to believe the kid was probably autistic, but I don't know and neither does
anyone else. I don't know if they medicated him or not. Or if they broke
Scientology rules or not. I suspect they did medicate him if he routinely
slept 12-16 hrs per day, maybe some kind of tranqs or something that
wouldn't violate Scientology doctrine? But a person who's faith doesn't not
allow belief in Autism has nothing to do with "distaste" for it.
jc
===
What isn't clear to me is that lack of treatment for his autism, assuming
that is the case, contributed to his death? Speculation, of course, but
proof in a court?? I can't see it.
jc
If their religion weren't involved, maybe I'd agree with you (and maybe
not). Anyway, how do you know what they deny and what they don't? And I
strongly doubt they gave up "any form of treatment". If the kid routinely
slept 12-16 hrs a day, even a teenager, I suspect some sort of medication
myself.

That's where any prosecutor will have difficulty. If they changed his diet,
would that have saved his life? There's a big leap between treatment and
risk of death.
Btw, if this child were so maltreated, that is to say, non-treated in life,
and he was raised so cruelly and dangerously - how come nun oh you spoke up

Cori posted a link to a video with interesting text included. I believe the
kid did indeed have it. I'm not convinced they did wrong by him though. It's
such a challenging thing, raising a child with those sorts of difficulties.
Parents do what they can, according to their knowledge, beliefs, support
system and resources.

IIRC there's not a whole lot you can do about autism either. As far as
seizures, sometimes meds work, sometimes they don't. My nephew also had the
seizures.
Chocolic
Agreed. With at least 50% of the WAGR kids being autistic, we have
yet to learn of one dying from autism. The seizures, in their case,
have not been related to autism. NIH and Univ. of Miami have recently
completed a study of autism in WAGR kids. These kids are on seizure
meds.
IFFFFF, Jett was not on medication for his seizures, that could be an
issue IMHO. We need to wait for autopsy results.

And Travolta’s corporate and commercial lawyer, Michael McDermott,
told Radar on Sunday that Jett had, in fact, formerly used anti-
seizure medication.
“They gave him an anti-seizure medication Depakote for over a year,”
he told the site. “It extended the seizures out to over 21 days. But
ultimately the attacks got closer and closer, they had to give more
and more medication, and it started to cause organ damage so they
stopped.”
McDermott believed Jett was no longer on the medication at the time of
his death, though Jett had round-the-clock care and supervision from
two nannies as well as other safety precautions.

Well, somebody dropped the ball. Not only was Jett alone when he

Personally, I hope they staged his death so that they could covertly
carry him off to a facility that is TOTALLY geared to his special
needs... to live out the rest of his life in total peace and serenity.
They've got the money to do it.
So SCREW the media... SCREW Scientology... and SCREW anyone humping
this tragedy for profit.
There is a lot to this one, sounds like it will take a while to sort
out. But I think most people would agree losing a child is probably one
of the worst things. It seems to me better to err on the side of
compassion and sympathy for the family, considering, and there did seem
to be lots to suggest the loved him dearly. If mistakes were made, or
there is any question about what shoulda/woulda/coulda been done, I am
sure they'll torture themselves with it forever. JMO.
Exactly. Even if they did practice some crazy Scientology healing
practices, I'm sure they didn't intentionally kill their son. In
their minds they were doing everything they could. No doubt they
loved their son very much and I can't imagine their grief right now.
Well said Poe. Compassion is key here.

Very interesting article, thanks for posting. It appears Joey did a lot for
autism awareness. Sounds like a wonderful person with a unique
understanding.
td
I agree completely. I used a wrong word the other night, *distaste*. Knew
at the time it wasn't the word I wanted, and shouldn't have posted rather
than using a word I knew at the time would be misinterpreted *because* I
couldn't find the proper word I needed.
Were this another family, a family of Christian Scientists, an unknown
rather than a celebrity family, I doubt we would even be having a dispute.
Time and again here, families who have either ignored their childrens
conditions, or used *prayer* or *cleansing* or whatever term their
particular *faith* adheres to, have been brought to light in no uncertain
terms.
Like you, I don't doubt the Travolta's love for their child. But unlike
others here, I don't think this loss will change their faith in Scientology
one iota. Just as the death of a Christian Scientist child doesn't shake
the *faith* of their parents. The parents somehow justify the loss as part
of a larger plan we just don't understand yet, or some such thing.
Autism has many therapies, treatments, one seldom hears of a child dying as
a result of autism. most parents of children on the autism spectrum keep
trying and trying to find what will work for their individual child. A
*plan* that will afford their child the best life possible under the
circumstances. If the child is unable to speak verbally, they certainly can
learn to sign in the far majority of cases. Autistic children are locked in
their world, and having a way to communicate is what's most important.

(And I am NOT a Scientologist. I was tricked into going to a meeting once by
an old boyfriend - 30+ years ago! Didn't like it then, can't abide it now.
He wasn't my bf for long, I might add.)
jc
"Handlers," huh? The only people I saw "handling" Jett were his two parents,
each holding one of his hands. It's quite likely he didn't allow many others
to touch him at all. In the one video (the one where Jett starts comforting
himself by staring at his own waving fingers after he was seated in the van,
and then gently tapping on his own head), it was instructive how his parents
were deliberately promoting calm, reassuring the boy with their touch etc.
Was this the vid Poe said make her sad? I thought it rather lovely, except
for that the daughter seemed a uncertain and tense, looking to her parents
for direction. I also presumed Jett's parents were probably aware that if he
chose to act out in those few moments, he could do a LOT of damage, and it
would be big news forever - and who would want that for their child? Of
course they could have sent him along separately from the family and avoided
most of that... but chose not to.
I agree tranqs might have been administered to regulate behaviour. Not sure
if that would be inappropriate or not. Or if it was some other sort of med
he took to deal with other symptoms?
I'll tell you what. If I were Jett's parents, I'd have pointed questions for
those nannies.
jc
=====
That last sentence sorta fits my sentiments. (Tho I wouldn't like to see
Jett isolated from his family. I believe they were all lucky to have each
other for as long as they did.)
jc
Joey did much for autism awareness apparently, as autism awareness in turn
enhanced Joey's career, as does this recent tragedy since it also raises his
profile vis a vis his nephew's illness. Interesting how relatives profit
when related to a huge star.
jc
For those who may not know, the classic form Autism is different and much
more severe than others lumped together under Autism Spectrum label, tho
nowadays they're often lumped together as a sort of shorthand. There IS no
single treatment whatsoever, and no guarantee ANY treatment will work, and
certainly no guarantee for longterm success.
The reason we don't hear of people dying of autism is because autism doesn't
cause death and therefore doesn't appear on death certificates. It's
affiliated conditions and circumstances that might influence time and manner
of death. If the parents are big movie people PLUS scientologists, nobody
hears about it.
And more importantly, just as some folks refuse to accept a name for any
particular brand of mental illness, perhaps folks may also resist 'autism'.
However, just because one doesn't like to accept the 'name' doesn't mean
they don't have to live with the symptoms every day of their lives, or that
they don't try to relieve said symptoms by any means possible (whether it
technically agrees with their religion or not). With the most severe of any
disease, people lose faith in conventional medicine, or employ other means
to cope, with or without conventional intervention as well.
jc
I love it when you're disengenuous.
jc
Lots of really good points here, JC.
Scientology is wacked! How can they believe environmental toxins are
dangerous and NOT believe in autism? Or believe in it and think
having it makes someone a "degraded being," when they acknowledge the
role of environmental toxins? So according to them, being POISONED
makes someone a "degraded being," so they should therefore not be
treated for the symptoms of being POISONED? Yet when they thought he
had Kawasaki Syndrome (which he maybe did, and was cured, but they've
used it as a beard ever since) it was fine to have medical treatment
for that? ACK!
Cori
I wasn't talking about abandonment. I was thinking more along the
lines of creating a new environment where EVERYBODY learned and
EVERYBODY benefited... away from intrusive entities. It wouldn't be
the first time someone feigned death in order to regain their privacy.
I find that possibility far more plausible than the idea that Jett's
family was guilty of NEGLIGENCE and living in DENIAL.
The one beneath it (which may be bumped down from second as more are
added), on the other hand, is plain mean, so I couldn't resist sharing
it where it will be appreciated.
Cori
P. S. Speaking of mean or just weird, does anyone else have two
particular songs running through their head now?
Reading my local news:
Cruise says church helped him overcome dyslexia
Posted: Today at 7:14 a.m.
Updated: Today at 8:52 a.m.
MADRID, Spain - Actor Tom Cruise said Scientology teachings helped him
overcome childhood dyslexia, a Spanish magazine reported.
Cruise was quoted by Spanish magazine XL Semanal as saying he was diagnosed
with the learning disability when he was 7 years old.
Cruise said he was often anxious, frustrated and bored as a youth and
couldn't concentrate in class, the magazine reported on its Web site Sunday.
The magazine quoted Cruise as saying he was functionally illiterate when he
graduated from school in 1980, but learned to read perfectly as an adult
through Scientology technology.
It appears scientology can *fix* anything.
Cruise really pissed me off when he was arguing with Matt Lauer about Brooke
Shields PPD. As if, in the first place, it was any of his damn business
whether or not Shields took antidepressants for her illness.
td
I'm not defensive in the least! *laughing*!
As for the Travoltas, unlike you, I'm thinking they had the best medical,
scientific evaluations avail on the planet. If, as you said, Scientology
disallows/disavows anti-seizure meds, and yet their lawyer says Jett was on
them for a long time, until they no longer worked & were causing possible
liver damage, then the Travoltas broke the rules of Scientology didn't they?
My guess is that they were willing to do whatever would work, as is the
position with many (most perhaps? who can say?) parents of severely
afflicted children, regardless of their religion. (Ever met a devout
Catholic who got an abortion to terminate their underaged daughter's
pregnancy? Bet so - whether you know it or not.) Treatment for the classic
form of autism varies WIDELY, and parents become very frustrated - espec
those for whom nothing works. And those DO exist, where nothing helps for
long.
And I don't know, maybe they refused to accurately (or at all) to give their
son's difficulties a name, but it does not mean they did not seek 21st
century medical treatment, and that medicine failed them. Even WITH
treatment, they would likely require and/or want 24hr caretakers for the
severity of Jett's symptoms. You are right that shiny jewellery and riches
do not equate to good med care. It cannot, espec if such care does not
exist. The fact is, autism did not kill this child. As you well know.
If the parents of Jett have been negligent and endangered his very life for
years, that's a different kettle of fish of course. But it didn't happen.
Just because you have in for Scientologists and Scientology, you're wasting
your time in this particular instance IMHO. You don't have to be defensive
though. ;~D

You give good links.

I didn't, but heard about it and continued to hate him after Brooke (a
distant relative I've never met) forgave him.

I don't think they staged his death...are you kidding? I do agree with
your last statement about Scientology...what possesses someone to
believe in voodoo especially when it has been proven that L. Ron was a
lunatic.
Excellent post comadrejo....but they're rich and the authorities will
refuse to do any investigation because of the powerful influence of
the Church of Nutso Scientology.

I guess these personal doctors are members of the Church of
Scientology.
From The Bahama Journal:
http://www.jonesbahamas.com/news/45/ARTICLE/18994/2009-01-05.html
The body was set to be shipped to Ocala, Florida, on Monday afternoon.
While the Travolta family was not present at the funeral home when the
body arrived, the family’s personal doctors were there to make the
necessary arrangements.

-----------------------------------
It appears anyone around the Travoltas are also Scientology members. I was
listening to I believe it was Cyril Wecht (sp?) on LKL last night. He said
'it would be impossible to diagnose *seizure* as the cause of death this
quickly. He said 'many things wouldn't be visible to the naked eye, slides
would need to be made and studied of the various organs, especially the
heart muscle, etc. I didn't hear anything about any 'liver damage' either
from the supposed seizure meds given. He also said there were numerous
seizure meds, if Depakote didn't work, others could have been used. And no
toxicology results have been available this early. He said 'he wasn't
saying it wasn't a seizure, only that a definitive diagnosis wouldn't be
possible in a couple hours.
As for this 'body being sent to Florida' Jett has already been cremated.
*Ashes* not a body, have been returned to Florida. So no further
examination or testing would be possible.
I don't know that much about Scientology, but what I do know is they believe
in a certain form of reincarnation, so I doubt very much the Travolta's will
change their views on Scientology/mental illness/theraputic drug treatments,
etc. From the obsessively religious people I've known over the years,
regardless of their belief system, they have already moved on to the point
of 'Jett being in a better place/on his way to being elevated to a higher
level, etc.' JMO.

Well, they've put it down to a seizure; I heard/read that he'd been
taken off seizure medications, so I'm sure that didn't help. I don't
know anything about autism so I don't know what kind of treatment
might have been appropriate for him. I am a bit surprised that he was
cremated so quickly. No wake etc.
Hard not to feel sad, though, especially if something could have been
done not only to save his life, but to have made it a better one,
speaking, banging his head etc.

I don't know about arresting the Travoltas, but given the privacy of
the family, how many people knew about Jett. I didn't know JT had a
disabled child. Don't be too hard on us who wonder if Jett was being
treated properly for *whatever* disease he had.
