Pandelios, the 20-year-old mother of a 2-year-old boy, disappeared
Feb. 27, 1992, after saying she was going out on a modeling assignment
and to meet a man named "Paul."
The Northridge woman's burned-out car was found the next day on the
Angeles Forest Highway, near the Monte Cristo Campground.
On March 3, 1993, a hiker discovered skeletal remains believed to be
those of the blond Cuban-American in a shallow grave, about two miles
from where her car was left.
Pandelios' disappearance was eerily similar to the Nov. 15, 1995,
disappearance of model and former Los Angeles Raiders cheerleader
Linda Sobek.
Sobek's remains were found eight days later, when photographer Charles
Edgar Rathbun led investigators to a secluded spot in the Angeles
National Forest. The corpse was unearthed from a shallow grave.
Rathbun -- who maintained he accidentally suffocated Sobek while they
were having consensual sex in the back of a Lexus 450 sport utility
vehicle prototype he had borrowed for a "photo shoot" -- was convicted
a year later of first-degree murder and sexual assault for the
27-year-old woman's slaying.
Rathbun, now 46, is serving a life prison term without the possibility
of parole.
In November 1995, then-Sheriff Sherman Block disclosed that
investigators were looking into the possibility that Rathbun was a
suspect in Pandelios' slaying.
Deputy District Attorney Stephen Kay, who prosecuted the Sobek murder
case, said after Rathbun's sentencing in December 1996 that Rathbun
was still a suspect in the Pandelios killing.
"I feel that he is involved in the Pandelios case," Kay said. "There
are very many similarities between that case and the Sobek case."
Well...darn it, don't plan....announce! (I think it's pretty
obvious what they're going to announce, and there may
be some more surprises....)

Something not mentioned in this article: there are more than
two similar murders/missing women, *and* Pandelios' body
was found within three miles of Sobek's.
There's not a lot of detail on the web, but this article (with a 1995
AP report) stands out:

Rosie Marie Lamer, 19, disappeared 7 Dec 1993. Hoped to
become a model and lived within a mile of Charles Rathbun.
Santa Barbara photography student Kym Morgan, who
disappeared 28 April 1985...and whose dismembered
remains were found in a brushy area after she received
a phone call to meet a man....which is what happened
to Sobek:
