ViceGripX sent me a link to an eBay seller from whom he'd recently gotten a pencil drawing of Jazz from the G1 cartoon. He didn't recall which episode it was from. The production number written on the drawing was 700-03, which was the Marvel Productions number for "Divide and Conquer," but it doesn't match any Jazz scenes in that episode (he was barely in that one, actually). I checked to see what else the seller had, and none of the scenes look familiar to me:

I'm guessing what he's got are drawings that were storyboarded, but never animated? Even the situations I recognize (like Soundwave in his Cybertronian mailbox mode, or Brawn with his I'll-get-you-loose-Huffer-don't-panic cutting torch, don't match the drawings of the characters as they actually appeared in the episodes. Something else of note is that both Autobots and Decepticons in these drawings are saddled with a generic insignia, neither Autobot nor Decepticon but something in the middle.

Anyway, I just wanted to share, since the artwork is interesting, even if I don't think any of these drawings made it into the finished G1 series. (It's possible they all ended up in a discard pile, which is how the seller got ahold of them.)

There was discussion about this on the Allspark back in 2012. I'm surprised these are still being sold.

The eBay seller does appear to have some legitimate, authentic animation paraphernalia (their stuff from the Star Wars: Droids cartoons looks legit, for example) but their Transformers stuff just doesn't look authentic.

At a guess, I'd say Darrell MacNeill produced this stuff (he is an actual animation storyboard artist; who knows if he ever worked on Transformers or not) and sold it to the eBay seller without them being able to validate its authenticity.

Hmm, well. Carry on, citizens.

Here's some G.I. Joe stuff of his that is up for sale:

...and GoBots:

No evidence that I can find that he actually worked any of these shows.

From everything I understand about how Sunbow shows were produced, they
would not have been animated by Americans in the first place. They were
only storyboarded by Americans and then these sort of drawings would
have been done by the Toei Key Animators.

Sickening. I like how he has them all marked down 50% now. You know, if he posted only 1 or 2 and listed each at $500, he could probably fooled some people. No original art from the G1 series is going to sell for under a couple hundred dollars. Thankfully, this guy can't even rip people off correctly.
