I didn't forget this time, Zobovor. :)
After looking over Botcon Beyond to read the story about the Wreckers, I ended
up having some questions about the characters.
#1 Rodimus (no Prime): He is Hot Rod, but wants to be called "Rodimus," even
though he no longer has possession of the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. Where
is that thing anyways? A few months ago, I asked this same question on Ben
Yee's site, and I got the answer that "one of the Maximal elders may have it."
By the time of Beast Machines, Rodimus IS ONE of the ELDERS in my opinion, and
I think he deserves it more than anyone else at this point partly because of
his age and partly because of his special physiology. (Apparently, Rodimus is
immune to the virus that Megatron released on Cybertron, and it seems that he
cannot be upgraded to Maximal either.) In one story, he is known as the "last
of the Templars." As far as I know, Hot Rod is the only Autobot whose tech
specs read "FUNCTION: Cavalier." Does anyone know of any others?
#2 Primal Prime: He has the same body that Optimal Optimus has, but he is a
different person. How is that possible if Megatron is hiding the OPOP body
somewhere? Also, am I just reading into his story too deeply, or is there a
subtle hint that Primal Prime is the resurrected spark of the original Optimus
Prime? (He recognizes Rodimus as if he's met him before...) Last time, at
least in terms of the U.S. cartoon continuity, Optimus Prime was still alive
(Rebirth). I guess Rodimus found another way to bump off OP again, hehe...
#3 Onyx Primal and Apelinq: Onyx Primal is the bat version of Optimus Primal
and Apelinq is the TM version. Is it just me, or is the idea of these two guys
existing just plain weird? That is, Onyx is the Primal that never was, while
Apelinq is the Primal that he will soon be. Keep in mind that their story
occurs during Beast Wars and not BM.
#4 Arcee: During Beast Wars, Rattrap referred to her by saying that "she WAS
my great aunt." Past tense; meaning she's dead, Jim. So how can she be one of
the Wreckers fighting alongside Rodimus during Beast Machines? When I first
heard about this exclusive toy, I thought that this is Arcee's new form shortly
after the Great Upgrade, and I had no idea that she is supposed to be still
alive. (As a fanboy, I'm glad she is still alive.) If I am completely wrong
about this topic, please enlighten me. If I'm not, I hope the writers for the
Botcon stories notice this post so that they can clarify some things later on
on their website. (The Botcon 2001 comic was just as ambiguous).
I welcome harsh criticisms and feedbacks from better TF experts than myself,
but please don't call me any names.
Well according to Glen they're folowing the Cartoon continuity (with a
few bits that don't contradict from other places thrown in). In the toon we
last see the Matrix of Leadership in Rebirth. At that point it is an empty
shell (emptied in Return of OP) and Prime uses that shell to reactivate Vector
Sigma. The shell is absorbed by V.S. and never seen again. So there's every
indication that either a) it no longer exists, or b) V.S./The Oracle is holding
on to it for the future.
>By the time of Beast Machines,
>Rodimus IS ONE of the ELDERS in
> my opinion,
I don't think so. The title "Maximal Elders" doesn't simply refer to old
TF's but the rulling party of the Maximals. It seems pretty clear that Rodimus
as presented in the Botcon story is not a member. He is, however a member in
good standing of the Wreckers, even before Meg's virus and the teem formed at
this years Botcon (see the Apelinq Journals at Botcon Beyond).
>it seems that he
>cannot be upgraded to Maximal either.
No, he HAS been upgraded to Maximal, the Botcon comic makes this pretty clear,
it's just his new Maximal body is of the same design as his old Autobot one.
>As far as I know, Hot Rod is the only
> Autobot whose tech
>specs read "FUNCTION: Cavalier."
>Does anyone know of any others?
Well, Side Burn/Speedbreaker SHOULD have it IMO. I mean his function is
"Speedy Knight" which translated into grown-up speak basicly means the same as
"Cavalier".
>#2 Primal Prime: He has the same
>body that Optimal Optimus has,
> but he is a different person. How
>is that possible if Megatron is hiding
> the OPOP body somewhere?
1) It's not the same body as OpOP, it's a diferent body based mostly
(head's different) on the same design. It says both on PrimalPrime's Tech Spec
and shows in the Botcon comic that PP was made by the Vok out of Quickstrike's
control suit from BW.
2) Megatron isn't hidding the OpOP body. We clearly se that body reverted
to a plain gorilla and then reformated in BM. At the end of that series Meg's
just uses the design for that body (aquired in BW) to build his own version of
it.
>am I just reading into his story too
> deeply, or is there a
>subtle hint that Primal Prime is the
>resurrected spark of the original
>Optimus Prime?
Again, it's made clear in both PP's specs and the Botcon comic that his
mind and soul is an amalgum of *ALL* Autobot leaders past and future.
> Is it just me, or is the idea of these
>two guys existing just plain weird?
I don't have any problems, it's just an example of similar designs, like
Prowl Bluestreak, and Smokescreen, or Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker
in the original TF's.
>#4 Arcee: During Beast Wars,
> Rattrap referred to her by saying
>that "she WAS my great aunt."
No he didn't. He simply used her
name as an exlamation. He was
burried under rocks by a blast and
then as he dug out he said something
like "my great Aunt Arcee!" sort of like a human might say, "Helpless, my
great
Aunt Fanny!" Now regardless whether
Arcee is really his Aunt, (or Fanny mine) he never says "was" so there's no
implication of death.
I assumed that Rodimus was semi-retired...

The tech spec says that Primal Prime was created by the Vok, who used Quickstrike's
control suit from "Master Blaster" to form the body. The tech spec also said
something about his spark being a fusion of Maximal and Autobot, containing
remnants of Optimus Prime and Optimus Primal's spark, but that he isn't really
aware of either of them or how he got there.

In the Japanese continuity, an episode called "Double Convoy" or something like
that sees Optimus pull the matrix back out in a recharged state, and he gives it to
Hot Rod who becomes Rodimus Prime again and the two fight side by side, until
Optimus dies in a fight with Galvatron. Later, Rodimus leaves Cybertron looking
for a new homeworld, never to be seen again.

Good question.
(Apparently, Rodimus
>is
>immune to the virus that Megatron released on Cybertron, and it seems that he
>cannot be upgraded to Maximal either.)
Wrong. In the comic, his Maximal upgrade is from his cartoon form to a more
toy-accurate form. It's not obvious unless you really think about it, but take
a look. Before his Maximalization, he was drawn as cartoon Hot Rod. Rodimus
is the toy Hot Rod. (Although I think it woulda been even cooler if he'd been
the MM HotRod that came with Star Convoy...)
In one story, he is known as the
>"last

OOoh. Ionno if that's a solid hit or not, but it IS nice to think about.
>#2 Primal Prime: He has the same body that Optimal Optimus has, but he is a

Remember that control suit that Quickstrike wore in "Master Blaster?" That's
Pre-Primal Prime.
Also, am I just reading into his story too deeply, or is there a
>subtle hint that Primal Prime is the resurrected spark of the original
>Optimus
>Prime?
I don't think so. He may SHARE part of his spark with OP, but the way it's
written, Prime's eyes "seem to flash with approval." Which, to me, says the
big OP is still in there. AFAWK, PriPri is made up from an amalgamation of the
sparks of the greatest Autobot/Maximal leaders... a "patchwork of convictions
from leaders past" and "a combination of Autobot and Maximal." Which would
mean that he's probably got a little bit of Optimus, some Sentinel Prime, maybe
some Emirate Xaaron, who knows? However, any spark that's in PriPri would
presumably HAVE to be in the Matrix when he was created, which rules out OP, as
his spark was right there on Earth. Unless, of course, you buy into the theory
that the Matrix is beyond space/time, and so ANY spark is game...
>#3 Onyx Primal and Apelinq: Onyx Primal is the bat version of Optimus Primal

Not... really. If you notice, Dan draws Apelinq a little different from TM
Primal. He has longer antennae, that's the first thing that comes to mind.. I
think his shoulder pads are drawn a bit bigger, too... Kind of a Kelley Jones
Batman look...

Easy. Arcee was underground. Rattrap may well have thought she was dead.
Alternately, "great aunt Arcee" may just be an expression... I always took it
to be JUST as big a nod to The Thing from the Fantastic Four (who's constantly
swearing by his Aunt Petunia) as it is to Arcee.

>Botcon Comic Spoilers...
According to the Wreckers comic, Rodimus is happily Not-in-Charge and
a member of the Wreckers. And he is upgraded to Maximal technology.
(In flashbacks, he looks like his cartoon model, but after flashing forward
to BM times, he looks like his toy.)
Who has the Matrix? Heck if I know. As far as anyone in BW time is
concerned,
the Matrix is a big facility that cranks out sparks for new Maximals.
Perhaps
the two are linked. Perhaps not.

According to PP's tech specs and the Wreckers comic, Primal Prime was
created by the Vok from the control harness Quickstrike used to puppet
Optimal Optimus in the BW episode "Master Blaster." He is a conglomeration
of knowledge and tidbits from the Matrix of Leadership. Therefore, he is
all the Primes and previous leaders and holders of the Matrix merged into
one. (Wonder if there's a bit of Thunderwing in there.)

There's a funny bit (well, to me, anyway) in the Wreckers comic where Primal
Prime meets up with BM Optimus Primal, and Optimus asks where Primal
came from and "why are you in my old body?"
Apelinq shows up and says "I believe I can help answer that."
Not sure if that bit of irony was intentional, but I was half-expecting Onyx
Primal to
show up too and say "Yeah, we have allllll the answers... bwahahahaha..."
> #4 Arcee: During Beast Wars, Rattrap referred to her by saying that "she

Actually, the line is "What in the name of my Great Aunt Arcee is going on
here?"
And we're not sure whether that was an actual declaration of heritiage or
just
a standard Maximal slang.

I think that his mission to find a new home was probably unsuccessful because,
in Battle Stars, he gets resurrected as a micromaster (with no way to fit the
Autobot Matrix in that tiny chest of his either). It also means the matrix is
also lost because he had taken it with him.
On the other hand, Rodimus, Kup, and Blurr could have been the founding fathers
/ancestors of the Maximals in BWII and BWNeo, especially since their stories
occur in deep space.
Also, if you think about size-comparisons, it's clear that Rodimus'
upgraded form is much smaller than his original form, based on the
interactions he has with BW-sized characters later in the comic.

Actually, whoever Hooper is quoting (attributions, people!) has
misremembered the dialogue, if I'm not mistaken. Rattrap says something
like "what in the name of my great aunt Arcee?!" Which says nothing about
whether she's alive or not. Maybe he thought she was dead anyway. Or
maybe he's referring to a different Arcee.

I didn't understand that part in the comic, I guess mainly because the symbol
on his chest didn't change from autobot to maximal.

Yep, I did not remember this dialogue correctly. Sorry folks for the lame
question.
According to his Tech Spec, Primal Prime's body is the remnants of the gizmo
that Quickstrike used in Master Blaster...

Nope he said "my great aunt Arcee". Never said anything about her being
deceased. May not have even meant *the* Arcee. Or it could have been a
flippancy such as "my arse is it"...

>By the time of Beast Machines, Rodimus IS ONE of the ELDERS in my opinion
That's the crux of the problem. Rodimus may deserve to be one of the elders,
but he doesn't LIKE being a leader. That was a major theme of G1 season 3,
with like 3 episodes devoted tot he sunject, and numerous anacilliary refs to
it.
>I think he deserves it more than anyone else at this point partly because of
>his age and partly because of his special physiology. (Apparently, Rodimus is

It sounded like his special physology is a result of exposure to the Matrix.
And he has been upgraded, or 'downsized' if you would, he just hasn't changed
his body type as others who've been reformatted have.
No one knows what the Templars refers to. The Templars are a religious
military order, and Rod's function as Cavalier literally does mean 'knight,' so
that's up for grabs.
Does Hsbro still own the rights tot he name Hot Rod? I know they releases a
Laser Rod by that name in the UK, but in the US?
Either way, I tend to look at it as an acknowlegment that he's now a fully
mature individual- but not a Prime.
Slightly connected point- one Bob and Larry's premises for BW was that the
Maximal Council was 'dirty.' Conducting experiments to replicate Starscream's
immortal spark, and delegating Primal to dispose of the twisted results... not
the stuff of 'nice guys.'
As tot he Matrix... which one? ;) The straight-on G1 metrix as so many
sub-terms it makes my head hurt. It sounds ot me like you mean the Matrix
housing, last seen in the US being used to activate Vector Sigma. Since the
term 'the matrix' in BW-era means 'that which gives life/ the afterlife' I tend
toa ssume the 2 are still merged, but that entire issue is clouded by the
phenomenally unclear treatment in BM, and the treatment of 'matrices' in BW2
and Neo which kinda-sorta share continuity with the US.
Even more tangentally, Hot Rod was known as 'Hot Rodimus' in Japan, and had a
micromaster (which, I hear was actually a different, real model of car than his
full-sized toy? Is that right?)
...and, the kicker (for me) is that US and JP stories split from each other
with 'Rebirth,' and BM clearly takes place in the same continuity as Rebirth,
yet the wreckers comic features a cameo from a 'Battlestars' character, the
last G1 line from Japan.
...just when continuity looked liek it was becomign a nice, tidy mess, they
drop another truckload onto it. ;)

In BM, Megatron re-created the 'Optimal Optimus' body from scratch, based on
plans he'd stolen.
Primal Prime was created by the Vok out of the Control Suit Quickstrike used
in 'Master Blaster' and given a patchwork spark from the great Autobot leaders
of history. (HOW the Vok did that is anyone's guess. Optimus Prime was right
there, so they did have an opportunity to use the Matrix...)
Put another way- Primal Prime is Serpentor. Jus tthink of it that way, it
make smy head hurt. (plus I'd kill for him to drop off a 'This I Command!'
line.)

Still waiting for my comic to arrive in the mail. (Thanks Pall!) But there's
apparently a line acknwleging the resembelance to Apelinq...
It's a wierd 'line' you walk with recolors. Some of them ACKNOWLEGE the fact
that they look like the original (BW Buzzsaw, who was Waspy's partner) some do
not, it was never mentioned, say, Bluestreak and Prowl looked the same. And
Smokescreen, who had the same toy, had a completely different 'look' when
animated; clearly he was NOT meant to be of the same 'make' as the others.
Sandstorm, I assume, was NOT meant to look like Silverbolt (indeed, Silverbolt
was conspicuiously absent from the BC2000 comic to prevent confusion.) I don't
think the similarity between Cheetor and Tigatron was ever commented on. Yet
Ravage went throught 3 'forms' Shadow Panther (Cheetor recolor, reffed as beign
him in TPA's techspec) the Ravage we saw on BW (TM Cheetor recolor/remold), and
'Tripredicus Agent' (TM2 Cheetor.)
Futher confusing things, this year's Transmetal Tigatron was a recolor of
Ravage's Japanese toy- yet the CGI shots of him produced by Mainframe 'add' the
'shoulder packs' they removed from that CGI model for Ravage. So Tigatron,
Cheetor and Shadow Panther all looked the same, yet nobody commented on it.
(Tigartron was noticably taller BTW) Transmetal Tigatron, BWRavage and Tm
cheetor were based ont he same toy, yet were radicly different in appearance.
TM2 cheetor ans Tripredicus Agent were again the same toy, both used Vok
technology...yet who can say if they were 'supposed' to look the same?
Ultimately, I'm of the school of 'if no one NOTICES they look the same, it's
just a coincidence' of recolors. For instance, we haven't seen Terronatron, a
transmetal Dinobot, yet in the comic (think he'll be in next year's...) but
when he shows up, he might be presented as an 'oracle-given techno-organic
body.' Whereas Magmatron was almost certanly NOT reformatted by the Oracle,
and is either immune ot the plague or comes in using Apelinq's shieldsuit
technology.

The line wasn't past tense, as others have pointed out. My impression is that
the 'once considered almost a maternal figure' line of her techspec was
intended to address Rattrap's comment. That fits fairly nicely, since
indications are Rattrap was one of the 'older' Maximals we've met, so he could
easily have met her before his 300 year exile.

No, they don't own the trademark any longer. As near as I can figure, Mattel's

Nope. I owned the toy for a little while, and it's basically a scaled-down

Probably more than just *one* step. At any rate, Rob and I have been
debating this for *years.* This is a hard-won victory, so you'll have to
forgive me if I celebrate a bit. :)

That's a question you should ask *yourself,* Mr. Powers.
-Bobbi... Rob just doesn't want to admit that he got beat by a woman. ;)
More to the point, Bobbi has been *losing* the debate for years, so any
percieved triumph, no matter how trivial and specious, is enough for her
to latch on to. >:D

There's really no way for me to reply to that, without geting into

Well, lemme tell ya exactly how it is.
Bobbi over there has this insane, delusional notion that Transmetal
Airazor's wings are supposed to be pointed downwards in robot mode,
dragging behind her like a couple of prehensile slug limbs or something.
She bases this fantasy on a paltry display of irrelevant "evidence",
including minor things like package art, instructions, and that one
trivial (fullpageshutupfuckyou) panel in the BotCon comic.
I have explained to her numerous times in clear, logical, fact-based
terms that this is not the case, that all admissible evidence clearly
dictates that the wings should point upwards in a kickasswardly fashion
reminiscent of the Seeker jets of olde, and that she's clinically insane
for thinking otherwise. Sadly, my rationality could not penetrate the
self-imposed muddleheaded fog that clouds her vision, and to this day she
persists in desecrating the very spirit of the character by pointing the
wings down -- despite the spate of irrefutible proof that the wings should
go up, including but not limited to the incontrovertible fact that she
looks cooler with them up, as well as conclusive evidence such as the fact
that I like her better that way.
Clearly Bobbi is not a TRUE FAN.

Well, *mostly* the fact that Airazor can't stand worth a crap with her
wings up, particularly with the cat jumping around the apartment. Let's
not forget what's really important, here!
(Not to mention his *very own* post a couple days ago, where he in fact
stated "Wings *DOWN*!!" in his .sig, for which he has yet to explain.)

In other words, Rob is delusional. Were I a clinical psychology student,
I would be able to describe his condition in more complete detail, but
alas, I am in social psych. I study "normal" people. The parameters of
Rob's mind, therefore, lie outside my area of expertise.
> Clearly Bobbi is not a TRUE FAN.
Clearly, Rob doesn't think clearly at all.
-Bobbi... I can only hope that someday he will correct his misled ways...
I never had any such problems. If the cat gets in the way, tie her
down! Bwahahaha!
Let's
>not forget what's really important, here!
Oh, I'm not. What's important is representing the character in a
superlative manner befitting her kick-ass stature as portrayed on the
show. A fact that you, Ms. Wings-Down person, seem to have FORGOTTEN.
You call yourself an Airazor fan, yet you turn around and stab the
character and all she stands for in the back. What kind of fan is that?
At least Walky over there can *admit* his misguided hatred, instead of
funnelling it into some kind of self-deceptive campaign to slander the
character under a pretense of affection. Not you!
>(Not to mention his *very own* post a couple days ago, where he in fact
>stated "Wings *DOWN*!!" in his .sig, for which he has yet to explain.)
There's this one episode of Star Trek: Next Generation, where some
crazed Cardassian has Picard all tied up and he's torturing him. He's got
4 lights in front of him, and he keeps telling Picard that if he'll just
see 5 lights instead of 4, the torture will end. Picard refuses to admit
it, of course -- but at the end of the episode, he confesses that at one
point, pushed to the edge by his torment, he really did see 5 lights.
Clearly, in a similar manner, the stress of debating with an unhinged
mind such as yours pushed me, however briefly, over the brink of sanity
and into the realm of thinking Airazor looks better wings down -- an abyss
from which I swiftly clawed my way out of, but too late to do anything
about that one post, alas.
>In other words, Rob is delusional. Were I a clinical psychology student,

Uh-huh. She can't stand for much of anything when she's lying flat on her

Walky has always been one of the overt Anti-Airzor.
Maybe if you'd ever get your butt into #wiigii! you'd see this. The

I don't see how "reasoning", "tools", or "logic" apply to any of your
so-called arguments here. "Pure", maybe - like, PURE BS. Ha! Oh! Oh!

>I'm merely trying to help you, Robert. Trust me, it's for your own good.
I'm truly concerned for your well-being here, Bobbi -- and that of
Transfan society at large. This exact train of thought has been used
throughout Transformer history to justify some of the fandom's worst
toy-display attrocities -- things like attaching Prowl's missile
launchers, giving Grapple two hands instead of a gun arm, placing Fracus
on Scourge's head instead of his head laser, or leaving Ultra Magnus where
he can be seen instead of chucking him into a closet.
Seek professional help, Bobbi. It's never too late to see the light
and start over, displaying your Airazor with her wings UP. Dammit.

True fan? I spent a total of 24 hours behind the wheel of my car (23 of
which I had *no* music) two weeks ago in order to attend BotCon. *Where*
were you? Home! I have a 4-digit income, and I still scraped up enough

No question of who the true fan is, here.

Once again, you have proven my point. You condem any attempt to instill
agency within toy displays. You wish to rob Prowl of his missile-
launching abilities, deprive Grapple of the basic right of a living being
to have two hands, and would prefer Ultra Magnus not even see the light of
day! What kind of sick, twisted toy owner are you?
Seriously, are you slated as the antagonist for "Toy Story 3?"

Rob, you must understand that admitting one's faults is the first step to
recovery, but it is something that must come from within yourself. I can
only lead you to water, but I cannot make you drink it.
Hopefully, your thirst for truth will someday finally break you of your
ignorance.
So, Bobbi says the wings go down because the instructions and art show them
that way.
And Rob says they go up, cuz they look cooler that way.
Am I missing anything else? Cuz it seems to be a slam-dunk argument
otherwise.

My return to the fandom was merely in its infancy in the summer of 97. I
didn't know anyone, and hadn't heard about BotCon until after the
registration deadline. Furthermore, I was still living in Syracuse at the
time. Yes, I was in Rochester the day of the convention, but I was

As a matter of fact, I have. A TRUE FAN would accept him as he is, and
not ostracize him for his seeming faults. As someone who claims to be a
defender of Retrax, one would think you'd know better, but apparently not.
Oh yeah, that's right. You just took down the Retrax page. Huh. I would

Holy SHIT.
There's a name I haven't seen bandied around these parts in a while. Welcome
back.

<sniff> Don't I get any chocolate? It's the only vice I have!

Hah hah!!! My power grows ever stronger, Robert!

No. Please go on. It's funny.
I wish I could write like that...
Aziraphale, each time I try I get no response, but that might have to
do something with the fact that I am probably killfiled by quite a lot
of people...

Hi Doug!
Hi HX!
I'm really happy to be back. It was a loooong and dark time.

I broke my own record... now it only took a day to be called crazy.
:')
But seriously, you claim that Airrazor's wings should go *up* based on
her personality; Bobbi claims they should go *down* based on
practicality (or at least that was what I understood).
My take on the subject is that they should go *down* because it's more
aesthetically pleasant. Just like happens with real life birds.
Please don't hit me.

Yes sir!
Eh... as soon as I have the chance. ^^U
Misbehave
Altair (aka Marijose)
Who's just found a terrible spelling mistake on her first message. Oh
well...
I sincerely apologize, Bobbi.
(Altair gives Bobbi two boxes of chocolate).
It's just that, in that moment, it seemed to me that Rob was the one
in need of chocolate (ñam, an anti-depressive vice)

Never underestimate the power of angsty fanfics!

Thanks. ^^
Misbehave,
Altair aka Marijose
A chocolate "addict" in her own right.

It probably has wings that point upwards...
