Before getting to Before the Storm review and some thoughts from Mr.
Forward, I am going to use this spoiler space to express the thoughts of
every BW watcher after watching this episode:

Is that enough? Thats how I felt basically. Here are some quick thoughts:

-The animation in this episode was superb. For some reason, it was made
more darker and animated with a more mature tone to it. I liked it a lot,
especially Tigatron's zip through cyber-space. Hey, is that Mainframe over
there?!

-Megatron. This was indeed HIS episode. Where the Predacon leader was
previously laughable, he actually pulled off a plan and played EVERYONE.
He's been saving his chips for the big bang, and now, I think EVERYONE
should watch out. Oh, and we also learn Megatron DOES NOT talk to
himself. He talks to his right hand/T-Rex head. It was real obvious in
this episode, and I am glad we got THAT dangler tied. :)

-Tarantulus. Things are being set into motion, and I can't wait to see
what he will do to leave this planet. More importantly, WHY he is leaving
the planet. This ought to be fun.

-Waspinator. "Spider-bot." Cute, very cute. Why do you have to blow
Waspinator up thought??

-The second golden disk. Something tells me there are things that are
more, much more than meets the eye here, oh yess.

-The truce. Obviously, this was a twist none of us expected. With the
aliens and the hope of getting back to Cybertron and their own inner
conflicts, this truce ought to excite some interesting things in the next
(final?) two episodes.

-Optimus Primal's "That's just Prime" at the end was exactly was I was
thinking. Over a month until Other Voices Parts 1-2. Slag.

Well, that's all, except a little info STRAIGHT FROM BOB FORWARD about
Other Voices and what the surprise MAY be, which will be coming soon on
the updated Beast Wars News page re-launching with the rest of Beyond
Imagination by 3-6-97...(see signature)
--
Hooks: ...Why didnt you just have Other Voices be a 3-parter, rather than
have Before the Storm? <one of my friends asked me this question>

Bob: It was supposed to be a four-parter. But Claster shot that down at
the last minute (really messed Larry's schedule up.) Apparently anything
more than a two-parter is too hard to schedule. Before The Storm had to be
made into a stand-alone ep.

Hooks: A four-parter that ends in a cliffhanger that will be resolved in a
second season not yet scheduled? Wow.
What is Before the Storm basically about?

Bob: I think the title is as much of a hint as I'd like to give. It will
be airing soon.

Hooks: Yea, that's true. Okay, what is Other Voices basically about? <boy,
am I persistent or what?>

Bob: A lot of the stuff that is hinted at through the series gets
explained. Then we toss in a bunch more stuff just to frustrate everybody
and give us lots of new possibilities for a second season...
....and that is what we are hoping to achieve. There is supposed to be
one big thrill for the original TF fans in OV, but production difficulties
may scrap it. I won't say what it is but if it doesn't work out I'll tell
you what was intended.

Well, except for the Looney Toons type effects (Primal wave after tapping
Inferno, Inferno's wiley coyote fall, etc.,) not that I'm complaining
just that it was 100% 'dark' (have to keep the parental groups happy).

:

Yeessssss, I wonder if he's still the 'Pretender to the Throne' after this
episode, 8^)

I really liked Megs in this episode, they actually made him a believable
leader for once, loved all the access codes and spy cameras.

:
: -Tarantulus. Things are being set into motion, and I can't wait to see

: what he will do to leave this planet. More importantly, WHY he is leaving
: the planet. This ought to be fun.

He must have known that the aliens were coming for some time. I'd bet
that the floating island was a DEFINITE sign to him that their was a
more powerful force out there, and that they would be back.
I liked the voice box gadget, 8^)
:
: -Waspinator. "Spider-bot." Cute, very cute. Why do you have to blow

I liked the 'Spider-Bot' bit also, I especially liked that Waspinator
pulled out his weapon and was ready to use it on Tarantulas!
:
: -The second golden disk. Something tells me there are things that are

: more, much more than meets the eye here, oh yess.

Hrm, why would 'aliens' have a golden disk which looked so similar
to the 'stolen' disk that started all of this? Also, how could
Megatron decode this info? Hrm, the aliens might not be so 'alien'
after all, especially since it's been proven that BW occurs in
the TF continuity (just as long as it's not the Quints... Hrm,
guess not, they showed Unicron already and BW tends not to have
conflicts like the original show).
:
: -The truce. Obviously, this was a twist none of us expected. With the

: aliens and the hope of getting back to Cybertron and their own inner
: conflicts, this truce ought to excite some interesting things in the next
: (final?) two episodes.

Hrm, define Truce, they definitely did a lot of things which I would
consider breaking the truce, hrm. No one ever used a weapon, but
a lot of the actions were not 'peaceful' either.
:
: -Optimus Primal's "That's just Prime" at the end was exactly was I was

: thinking. Over a month until Other Voices Parts 1-2. Slag.

Is it me, or does Primal always get the final word in the episodes
that feature the alien technology? 8^)

I'm glad we have good writers for the show, and continuity as well.
Hrm, if a second season doesn't happen, would there be a 'video'
release to tie up the loose ends?

Spoiler space added for BEFORE THE STORM...

Well, from Spider's Game, we know that he thinks _something_ is wrong.
I think it's something more than the aliens, since there's no reason
to definitely assume that they're hostile.

Finally! I've been wondering why the Golden Disk was so important
to the Predacons; in a world of robots, it'd be so much easier to
just grab an image of the disk (both sides!) and then go fly there.
The artifact itself must be needed for some reason. (But could
Megs have anticipated that?)

Unicron isn't a contradiction to the Quints.

Truce: When you can take hostile actions against another party as
long as it involves bad action sequences whose outcomes can
be seen from a mile off if you've watched TV for at least
two years

Yes, I loved this episode _despite_ that part at the end. It started
with the "two-bad-buys-running-at-the-hero-from-opposite-sides"
shtick. That's the kind of thing that turns off the older kids from
cartoons. Kids _aren't_ idiots.

-D, still annoyed that none of his a.t.t. reposts to
alt.humor.best-of-usenet have been accepted

Official word from Bob and Larry seems to indicate that it won't be the
quints, but I may be wrong about that.

Throw him to the Sharkticons!

(Sorry. I *like* the Quints -- in concept, at any rate. I have to agree that
on the cartoon, they failed to provide adequate menace.)
