It was an acceptable Unicron in 2003 in the same way that Energon Roadblock was an acceptable Grapple update or Energon Downshift was a pretty good Wheeljack update. There was a time before 2006, before Classics and all that came after it, when we were hungry for whatever bones Hasbro deigned to throw at us. (Armada Sideswipe with a Battlecharger head sculpt? Yes, please, thank you, may we have another?)

Armada Unicron might have 2 pretty big wings, but he also uses his feet, and shoulders, and forearms to form parts of the planet shell. It's not an egg around a robot like Siege Unicron. Armada Unicron has a lot of missiles, he has sounds, he still has a rudimentary chomping, he has a moon Minicon and a few Minicon ports, a Minicon compartment in his belly for Minicons he's eaten.
He has articulated shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, wrists neck, and fingers. Sure Siege Unicron might have all that articulation, but how much of it can he use without the stand? How much more is an extra elbow or knee joint worth when he has a quarter of a planet on the back of each leg stacked less efficiently than stacking Doritos. With all those panels, they do stack but they are a huge chunk that seems like it could have been done smoother.

But all of the things you mention, from Armada Sideswipe to Predaking to Energon Downshift all did something this Unicron doesn't. They interact with other parts of the line. Little cars can drive around on Metroplex. Titan Masters can connect to Fortress Maximus. Unicron is a giant statue that is also a different giant statue. It needs a freaking stand.

I know there are Star Wars fans who have life-sized statues of Darth Vader and own replica lightsabers and helmets and things, which I personally have no interest in. But, I only get one lifetime on this planet, and I feel like Unicron needs to be in there somewhere. That's something I don't want to miss out on.

We'll see who is the sucker when it's 125 degrees outside and you have to take the dog out then play Easter egg hunt to find it's turd. Know how many times a day I have to take the cats out? Know how hard it is to locate a cat turd?

I'm waiting for someone to attach the planet mode to a drone and have it fly around.
You're going to keep him in is box? He's not even a statue then, he's a box! If he's in the box he might as well be a $600 oversized Funko Pop!

It'd be cool if he came with some WST versions of Titans. If we got a 2 inch transforming Metroplex and Trypticon, or Scorponok. As he is he's just an oversized transformer with a lot of joints who now thanks to Gustavo reminds me of Death Star Vader, but with no cape, lightsaber, or TIE fighters.
A few weeks ago I sold some Meteorbs Cometroid and Astro-lion I had. Guy was really excited. I'd actually buy a Unicron Meteorb.
