I've been in Bali last august and i travel through diferent places in Indo.
If you go there in March, you should go to the east part of the island it's
the better place.
In march, spots in the west side of the island like Ulu, Padang, Bingin,
impossibles don't work at best.

You should try spots near Nusa dua or padangbai, Tulamben...

The best thing to do is taking a boat from padangbai to Lombok where
march-april is the best time.
Spots like Laceration, or Mindi are incredible but warning to the shallow
reef other there!!!

May be also spots like Kuta, Legian works but you have to like the crawd to
surf there.

Have a good trip.

Feb /march the western-kuta side of bali will most likely be onshore, BUT
the eastern side should be offshore and all those right handers cranking
(swell permitting). I have had great waves and the biggest I ever had was
that time of year at Nusa dua and greenballs (bali cliff).
You still could get ulluwatu, bingin, kuta reef etc, it just depends on the
wind.

All good advice.

The only thing that wasn't was LOMBOK. Great place but there is a
civil war happening there at the moment. Unless you carry an Uzi in
your boardbag, steer clear until the problem has been resolved (or
charter a boat and moor out the back and drop in.

Bali is totally unaffected by Timor and Lombok troubles and is still a
safe place. You can live on $$ a day and there is always surf
somewhere up the coast.

Enjoy.

Sorry to be pedantic but it's not actually a civil war. The muslims are
killing
the Christians and burning their churches ... so it's religious (on the
surface).

Reports that came out when they were evacuating Australians from the
area was that there were no problems in Kuta, Lombok. All the problems
were centred around Mataram and Sengiggi Beach (quite a
distance from Kuta, Lombok). The only problem
would be getting there as the airport is near Mataram and Lembar
harbour was also a "hotspot".

I had two trips there a couple of years ago and really enjoyed the
place but the Sassaks seemed to me to be quite agressive people
and could possibly "turn on you" quite quickly. That's only my
perception of them and I admit I could be way off base. I did
have a great time there, met some really nice locals and had
some good waves. Up to you!

Regards,
Steve.
