Maybe adding a google groups link, incase they don't have a usenet reader
set up. Maybe a big huge button that says Read A.S.S. or something.

Didn't know it existed.. and ain't bravenet a free host? I never had
any luck with freehost. They give you free web space so you can build
traffic to it. After a while...(once the people using the free host
have built a lot of traffic to it) they magically shut down and all
the traffic you worked so hard for is forwarded to their affiliate
programs. Free host suck. Nothing is free. Everything comes with
a price.
I'm not sure, geocities has been around for years.

Geoshitties.. Perfect example of a bad free host.
I think web1000.com is OK they have no banners. But seriously, if your not
willing to pay the 5 dollars or so you can get paid ones for now-a-days
then you obviously don't care that much or are poor like me so you don't
really care.
The FAQ is written by some random guy named Tim Arends who barely ever

Freehost have their place I suppoise. But don't use
them for anything serious. "Banerless Freehost" means that as soon as
their members build them a bunch traffic they are gonna claim that
they can't afford to offer their free service anymore. Then they shut
down and redirect the domain to one of their favoriate affiliate
programs. So all the traffic that their members worked so hard to get
is now theirs to do as they please. Geoshitties is probably one of
the better freehost, they been around a long time. They have lots of
members who work very hard to drive traffic to the Geoshitties
banners and pop up ads... And thier members do all this work free of
charge. Think about it... Nothing is free.
well it's TRUE. tim arends is a nobody around here.

Tim admits this in the FAQ: "Much of the material in the FAQ comes from
personal insight." He's notoriously unreceptive to challenges to and
requests for changes in his FAQ. As such, his work would be more
accurately titled "Tim Arends's Shyness Essays".
Ideally, a newgroup's FAQ would be a group effort. Unfortunately,
whenever this subject comes up, no one really wants to get the ball
rolling. What do we want to see in a FAQ? Does this newsgroup even
really need a FAQ?
Well yeah, I know it. I realized that when the sadsadsoul first mentioned
about him. I chose to ignore that rather than to make bitter comments about
it. Not that I don't think bitter comments are wrong, it is just that
everytime mark green posts it is negative.

Yes, basically write FAQ, Shy people need to change. Get some therapy. Or
whatever.
True. I think it would be best to start a new FAQ from scratch.

I guess we could get a pretty good FAQ after a few iterations. I think a
FAQ could be useful as a repository of strategies to deal with shyness.
Possible topics in the FAQ could be:
1. Netiquette (dealing with trolls, etc)
2. Strategies for dealing with shyness
a. Making friends (ice breakers, relaxation techniques etc.)
b. in the workplace (dealing with superiors and cow orkers)
c. general interactions
d. MOTAS
e. general stuff like CBT or NLP stuff on increasing confidence etc.
3. Information on meds to deal with shyness.
4. Links to other online resources.
etc. Feel free to expand, suggest more stuff on this. We could have
culture specific sections to deal with situations that people in
different cultures might encounter. It could be a cool project.

i've never had much concern for cow orkers, myself :>

tho i've had little interst in this, i've seen generally contradictory
posts regrading the $$$ psych drugs. however, (based on posts) drinking
alcohol might have temporary use. (if wary of teh usual problems of
alcohol use.)

virgo has a penchant for googlng. and i think using classic a.s.s. posts
might be a good way to summarize a 'best of a.s.s.'.
I think a wiki would be ideal for something like this.
For those who don't know, example wikis are:
http://www.wikipedia.com
http://www.c2.com/cgi/wiki?WelcomeVisitors
This would ensure a centralized FAQ that everyone could chip in on. The
problem would be finding a host for such a beastie.
Some a.s.s.ers do. The FAQ should try to cover as many people's problems
as possible.

Yea, there have been several good posters and posts whose posts might be
helpful as a resource. Names include Pepke, Meunier, yakima, and many
others.

I'd like (and would help with) something like that. FWIW i think Tim
didn't do such a bad job with his faq, it seems to help some people
(at least from the comments on his site), it's just old and not very
representive to this group now.
But i'd really like us to expand this idea more, build a bit of a
larger community for us.
I mean right now, we have the newsgroup, the pic page, that irc
channel who apparently has gotten pretty separated from a.s.s. (does
anyone here go there anymore ?) and this faq on that other site.
Wouldn't it be nice if we put all these bored shy programmers to work
and centralise it all ? Ofc it would still be centred around the
newsgroup and the users here, but we could have fun stuff there, like
profiles, those tests and polls you guys love to take, that wiki which
would quickly grow beyond the faq seeing how big an endless suply of
bored minds we have, places to share links and files and info, chat,
some kind of messaging, blogs, etc... Anything we cared to add to it,
really. Even dating if you guys can find the girls :).
As for hosting... you could put it on some free host if it was a small
faq site or even a small wiki but not something like this.
Dosen't anyone here own a server ? Or have admin access to one ? ;)

Tim obviously put a lot of time into that FAQ, and as far as a FAQ about
shyness in general, it seems good.

There are a couple of cross-overs between a.s.s. and shyroom. Adia is
one. Eldorado is another (not sure if he's still here, though). Very
rarely, Ollie (SP?) will pop in. The Usenet and IRC cultures are pretty
different, though, so the divide between a.s.s. and shyroom is probably
inevitable.
The pic page is a good start to a a.s.s. FAQ. I wonder if Kitz would be
willing to host the FAQ, too?

That'd all be great. One challenge I foresee is keeping such a thing
from developing a life of its own and splintering away from a.s.s. into a
separate community, like shyroom.

I seem to remember having a hard time finding free website hosts that
allowed third-party scripts.
