---------------------------
@ General Suggestions @
---------------------------

First, please only post your work or work which you have obtained
permission to post.

Second, all stories that are posted here make thier way into the
archive. If you do not what them in the archive, please note that
in the first 40 lines.

The group would like to never see another Make Money Fast post, so
please don't post them. (A Star Trek Parody of them ispermitted
though)

The authors of this group LOVE feedback. It's the reason we post the
stories (other than the fact we thought it was a good story) Soe-mail
them, post a reply if you are more out going. Some new authors
have e-mailed me wondering why they recieve practically no response.

[See responding to works section]

----------------
A Bit of History
----------------

The Alt.StarTrek.Creative archive was started by Joseph S Young back in
the early 1991. He maintained it on ftp.cis.ksu.edu until April of
1995.

During the summer of 95 a search was made for a server willing to house
the archive. In July, our new Archivist, Alara Rogers, announced the
new location, healer.com.

In January of 1996, the archive was moved to gdw.com due to it's better
connection (it was healer.com's ISP). Then in March, yet another change
was announced. The name was being changed to token.net.

In August of 1996, token.net kicked us off due to bandwith use.
Alara found us a new location at aviary.share.net

-------------------------
Submitting to the Archive
-------------------------
Any thing posted to ASC that reachs Alara will be archived. She also
archives works from the erotica group as well. Submittions may also
be e-mailed to arch...@mindspring.com or uploaded to the
pub/startrek/incoming directory on the site.

If you don't see your story on the site, or you see it in the incomplete
directory and it's complete, you can e-mail submissions to
arch...@mindspring.com

Make sure your name is on the first page of the story (if you're using a
pseudonym, then make sure your pseudonym is there.)

Questions and problems can go to arch...@mindspring.com as well.

[once again, Alara, if anything changes let me know, it takes two days
for your posts to reach me. E-mail takes @5 mintutes -SBR]

----------------
A Bit of History
----------------

In the Fall of 1995, the call for an index to the archive got answered.
Matt Steenberg began a project to provide summeries for every story in
the archive. He called for vollenteer summarizers and began the massive
project.

However Matt seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth
last July. So after waiting for several months, the FAQ Maintainer,
Stephen Ratliff took over the job.

Currently the Index needs many new summarizers to complete the task.
See the Index Maintainer's Notes for what's available.

------------
Organization
------------

The Index is set around a main web page with links to pages for each
directory of the archive. The adult section is linked off thier own
page.

A provision for a mirror site is being worked on. Alara and I would
both like mirrors for the archive and the index.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------
@ Posting format @
----------------------

Style
Lines should be less than 75 charactors, which will allow people
to read it easily on most newsreaders. It should be single spaced.
As upper case is considered shouting, don't writing in all upper case.
Reserve that for when you charactor is shouting.

Subject Heading
The subject line of the post of your story should include, the
series, the name of the story, and the part. Generally the series is
abreavate with 3-letter acronyms (TOS,TNG,DS9,VOY).
This should be formatted in the following Manner:
Subject: NEW Title of Story part [RATING] (SERIES, ROMANCE CODES Type)
Subject: REPOST Title of Story part [RATING] (SERIES, ROMANCE CODES Type)

Here are some examples:

Subject: NEW Falling Into Command [PG] (TNG)
Subject: REPOST The Captain And the Doctor [PG] (TNG, P/C)
Subject: CORRECTED All The World is ... 4/? [R] (VOY, J/C P/T)
Subject: REVISED Something Wicked 2/3 [NC-17] (DS9, O/K Parody)

Story Header
The begining of the article of with your story in it should
include the series in belongs to, the title, your name or psuedoname,
an email address for replies. It is also suggested that you include
what type of feed back you want. You should also include romance codes
if you are dealing with romance. Those codes are in Section one of
the Status of Stories FAQ. These headers help list your story in
the Status of Stories FAQ. Any part that is not repeated in full in the
Subjectline should be listed.
You also should have a disclaimer. This should acknowledge
Paramount, and credit yourself. This is where we correct information
which may be shortened in the header.
You do not have to list anything here that is listed in full in the
Subjectline. Order is not important here. It's best explained though the
use of an example.

(The example is numbered by line, but do not include the numbers in your
header These numbers are for explaination purposes only. You do not have
to do them in this order.)

1Title: All The Kings Horses
2Author: Stephen Ratliff (srat...@runet.edu)
3Series: TNG Marrissa Stories
4Part: NEW 1/?
5Rating: [PG]
6Codes: Rene Picard/f

7Summary: Captain Picard takes his newly adopted daughter Marrissa home to
meet his family. Marrissa deals with the loss of her parents and a local
bully.

8Disclaimer: Paramount, the great and powerful, owns all of Star Trek. I
mearly claim this story.

9Warning:This Story contains ...

Now for an explaination. I'll be greping out certain lines in the
post. The Subject line, the Date line, the From line and the first 6
of these lines.

Line number 1 is the Title line. Since we wish that you would keep
the title in the subject brief, this field allows you to put those
long titles we enjoy.

Line number 2 is the Author line. This allows me to make sure the
author is correct in my listing. If you don't put it, I'll take it
from the From line.

Line number 3 is the Series. This allows you to list your sub-series
as well as the series it is in.

Line number 4 is the Part. It consists of the Postname and the
part/last part. The same rules apply as above.

Line number 5 is Rating. Put the rating in [] and any codes such as
h-c here.

Line number 6 (New) is Codes. Put all the romance codes, and story
types here.

Number 7 is the summary for the archive index. You may include this
in a separate post. More explaination below.

Number 8 is the Disclaimer. Be creative but give credit where credit
is due.

Number 9 is the warnings. If there is something that may bother
someone, let them know here.

The Story Synopsis
The Story Index for the archive requires a short summery.
Our Index Maintainer would like all authors to provide one for thier new
stories. Stephen would like a 3-4 line non-spoiling summery for each
newly posted story.
Some people in order to prevent spoilage place this header in
a separate post labeled SYNOPSIS, SUMMERY or the like. The
Maintainers encourage such behavoir. An example is provided below.
If you do not post such a SYNOPSIS, please make sure all the
information from the story header is in it.

---------------------------
@ Responding to Works @
---------------------------

The authors on ASC live for feedback. It's part of the reason wepost
(other that the fact that we thought we had a good story). We
encourage people to respond to the stories on ASC. However, there are
some things you should remember.

First off, ASC is community, promote that sense of community by pharsing
your replies in a respectful manner. Do not attack the author
personally. This can result in the most nasty flames. Do not attack
the type of story. Saying you hate it because you can never see
Picard and Crusher together is not helpful. Instead, tell us what
you liked, and what fell flat and why.

Some authors request that you give feed back privitely, others publicly,
still others don't care how. Some just want compliments, some want mild
compliants, still others you can rip thier story to shreads and they
won't mind. How do you tell which? Well generally they'll tell you.
If the don't, the default seems to be compliments, mild problems, and
on the group.

For More Information on Feedback see the Critiquing
FAQ.
