How do you do better than a shutout?

Like the 7 that John Matlack threw?

or the zero that Degrom threw?

Pitchers don't throw complete games anymore.

The statistical analysis, based on a large number
of samples do not agree with your emotional comparison.

Sadly, complete games are simply a part of the past.
I agree that I wish that were not the case. When pitchers
threw complete games, they were more interesting pitchers,
using more craft, pacing themselves.

That game no longer exists.

Here are the statistics.

but they should so there is no point in repeating that. You can't bitch
about losing 9 games when you have on 1 complete game

BTW that is a faulty measure of statistics. I'll let you figure out why
on your own. The sample is bias.

Koosman also had 7 shutouts. That was in 1968. He had 6 shutouts in 1969.
