This is the old farts team.

Bautist and Reyes are now tied at .192

This exciting match up is now dead even.

Who will take the old fart's honor?

Will either of them hit .200?

Reyes not only now has the higher batting average, for
the first time this season, for one at-bat, his batting
average broke the .200

Perhaps he should have retired before his last at bat?

While I find these obscure things to watch, really,
what the fuck are these two guys taking up
slots on the roster?

There are minor leaguers who
wouldn't benefit from major league experience.

They want to try Rosario in CF, I like that idea.
He has the speed. He hasn't demonstrated the soft
hands of great shortstops, but has to speed to
cover a lot of ground in center and a fine arm.
And, they have some better fielding SSs in the minors.

Really, the Mets don't understand what a sunk cost is.

If they sign a player, and he sucks, because they spend
a lot of money, that is not a reason to play him.

Reyes has started to actually hit, and field. which leads one to wonder if something was going on before this point.

Seems unlikely.

Well, for one thing .. who would you replace them with? Bautista has a good glove, a great arm, and power. Pick someone on the AAA roster that you are willing to burn a year of control to bring up right now.

Reyes is there more for his mentoring of the younger infielders, something he seems to be doing well with Rosario. Again, pick someone to replace him that can offer this.

Feel free to pick one. Bear in mind, if they haven't been up before, you lose some control going forward.

He's going to move to center to make room for Gimenez, that is clear. The kid in the minors has a better bat, better glove, better speed (which is scary) and a better arm.

Which they've done, look at Gonzalez.

Gonzalez they knew he was at the end of his career, and he was
told he was there to train his replacement.

I agree Reyes is a great mentor and coach. So make him a coach.
There are players that have had a cup of coffee with the team.

Bring them back.

Why not let the two of them be player coaches at a place like
AA or something. It's not like wins at the ML are important,
but training young players, let them learn from experienced
major league players, could make a difference down the road.

I would personally love if Reyes comes on this year.
He holds a place in my heart.

Bautista was rent an old fart.

If the Mets are going to bring back old players, bring
back players that were Mets.

People still care for and root for Reyes. NO one really gives
a shit about Bautista, and he'll only go down hill.
He has no future upside.

For one player that could replace him, give Dominick more
time in the majors. He still might hit.

based on what because Rosario sucks in the field and it doesn't seem to
me that Reyes is the second coming of Pee Wee Reese.

Considering he's never played about A level the Mets don't want to rush him.
This guy looks like he could be a great defensive shortstop and has potential to hit.

He's been at double-a Binghamton now for about 3 to 4 weeks. Could see him with the Mets towards the end of next year, depending on how he's doing, and what's going on with the parent club. He turns 20 in September.

My guess is he'll get a September call up, just as a gesture for what he's done in the minors this year. But no, I don't see him coming up next year.

It wouldn't surprise me that if the Mets get off to a decent start
next year, they trade the kid for a 40 year old middle reliever with a
history of arm trouble.

Let us hope not. But honestly, I don't think so.

Gimenez was only signed 3 years ago. He's not on the 40 man roster and
won't need to be in order to be protected from the Rule 5 draft this
winter, so I don't see him being brought up in September. You invite him
to major league spring training as the gesture for what he did this year.

Fair, I didn't check to see if he was on the 40. Your approach makes more sense.
