I think a scooter would be great for commuting to work, but as I'm a tad
over 6ft tall with too many elbows can anyone suggest scooters not to
consider, as I can't possibly try out everything on the market. Legal
restrictions mean I can't ride anything over 125cc, which should be enough
power as I'm not heavy, but some of those small scooters look just a bit too
small to be comfortable
Are there any tall people out there riding Vespas?

find it quite comfortable actually. Best way to tell mind you if YOU will
be comfortable is to at least sit on the machine - move the steering while,
check out the position of the switches (are they too close to your knees,
etc)

I'm 6'1" and I plan of getting a maxi-scooter. I wanta get one not just for
comfort but also so I can go on long trips with it.

To reply the other way round.....
One TO consider would be the Peugeot Elyseo. Mine's only a 50
(licence limitations), but I chose it because it "fits" my 6ft2 frame.
Smaller scooters tended to make me feel "perched" on the front of the
seat, when carrying a pillion, and made my knees foul the handlebar on
turns, which I thought dangerous. I also like the way my legs only
just touch the ground at both sides, when stationary.
Looking around the larger-engined scoots, I also found Piaggio Hexagon
large enough.

I'm 5'11" and a bit of change and have had no problems with anything
I've ridden. I felt really comfortable on the Aprilia Scarabeo Ditech
(which I'm buying as soon as I sell one of my cars, anyone want a 1997
Nissan 200SX SE-R?), as well as on the Vespa ET2, and my friend's
Piaggio LT150, and a Kymco People 50. The Yamaha Zuma was also fine
as far as fit (even riding on the back with someone else driving), but
I just didn't really like it that much. The Honda Metropolitan felt a
little small, and with the 50cc four stroke will be a slug (also can't
be ridden 2 up). Unless you're looking at something with pedals
that's really tiny, any of those things should fit you. The biggest
worry when looking at scooters is that they'll be too big. We had to
see if my fiancee could touch the ground on a couple we weren't sure
about.

get a 125, make sure they let you have a sit on it 1st of course to make
sure that you are comfy.
I'm 6'4" and I have a Honda @125 which I fit on fine. 125cc will definitely
be enough power, because im about as wide as i am tall, and it moves me
round the roads nice and nippy.
just dont go for a 50cc.... not enough power and most of em look tiny.
you can get quite large 125cc scooters too, things like the burgman 125
still have the large touring style body which may be more suited to you if
you are very tall.
ive only ever heard of people too short to get on a scooter/bike, never
someone too tall :)

I had the same idea and concerns a couple of years ago. I sat on a lot
of scoots and found that 125cc versions of the following had plenty of
room - Peugeot Elyseo (now Elystar), Yamaha Majesty and Malaguti
Madison. The Madison had the most room. Suzuki produce a 125cc
Burgman, but I've not tried it. For a more retro look the Benelli
Velvet is also quite roomy.
Bottom line is to try them yourself and find the one you prefer.
