A bit early to call this a "steal," reportedly it's an expropriation,
meaning a price will be paid, just how much is unknown yet (if ever.)

The article also says that "Caracas has already seized the Hotel Hilton
in Caracas," without further mentioning the important detail that the
government was the owner the property: "Another Hilton-managed hotel in
Caracas changed its name to the Alba Caracas in 2007 after the
government, which already owned the building, took over management when
Hilton's concession expired."

Interesting how two articles about the same topic can read differently.
I am sure expropriations happen in the U.S. too, I wonder if they are
also reported as "acquisition by force" rather than "forced acquisition"?

Like in the United States when land is expropriated for highway
construction.

eg "In 1988, the State of Louisiana, through the Department of
Transportation and Development (the “DOTD”), expropriated eleven
parcels of land in St. Charles Parish for construction of a highway
interchange at Airline Highway and Interstate 310."

Does that answer your question, you inbred republican idiot?

I found out it's called "eminent domain" in the U.S., not
"expropriation." Nevertheless, same thing.

My point was and still is that "acquisition by force" is *not* the same
as "forced acquisition." I am not a native English, but "acquisition by
force" doesn't conjure the same imagery as "forced acquisition." The
choice of words is even more questionable given that the Spanish version
of the same AFP article *does* say "forced acquisition."

I don't know why it bothers you that I pointed out this inaccuracy.

No, here is is corrupt officials backed by an army of developers. Look
up New London, CT eminent domain. They stole waterfront property from
people who'd lived there for years, some for generations, and razed it
in order to build a business complex including hotels and shopping malls.

This was not to benefit the community, it was to line a few favored
people's pockets.

Drop the ad hominem sniping. It makes you look silly.

As soon as that one passed, the little community where I live tried it
out on one of the few remaining trailer parks. They apparently wished to
upgrade our image and expand casino parking. There was an uproar. The
trailer park is still there.

Is that true? Then, so did all these other news articles, including the
Wall Street Journal, which used "forced acquisition," "expropriation"
rather than "acquisition by force."

I think it's just a reactionary Opterm* kinda thing from his
Scientology conditioning. He appears to have just snapped into that
uptight right-wing valence. But surely it's an improvement over
staying in Scientology. Hopefully he'll fully recover one day, maybe
with a few helpful ministrations from Fred Rice and myself. ;-)

*In psychological terms, you could say this amounts to ping-pong
identities that oppose each other in some way.

Skip's no parody. Just like Rush Limbaugh, he's the real thing.
He's so self-absorbed he has no idea how funny he really is.

The first time I saw Rush Limbaugh on tv, I thought at first he was
a brilliant comic who had *nailed* every nasty stereotype of the
redneck republican moron.

After a few minutes I realized Limbaugh was dead serious. I laughed
even harder :)
